Job Description

Mantel is a climate tech startup supported by Breakthrough Energy, The Engine and New Climate Ventures. Born out of MIT, Mantel was founded by two MIT scientists and a Harvard MBA to develop the material solution to carbon capture. Our molten borates are designed to operate at the high temperatures found inside boilers, kilns, and furnaces – enabling highly efficient carbon capture that has not been possible until now. Carbon capture can be applied across industry to reduce emissions - and even achieve net-negative emissions. By solving for efficiency Mantel can reduce energy losses to near-zero and cut costs in half, unlocking carbon capture’s role in reaching net-zero emissions globally.

Mantel is looking for a Process Engineer excited to join a promising carbon capture startup working on the development of molten salts as a novel CO2 sorbent material. The Process Engineer will be jointly responsible for execution of Mantel’s first-of-kind demonstration system as we partner with EPCs to design and build the plant. In parallel, the Engineering Team is working to develop and execute the system’s commissioning, operation, and maintenance plans. This position will work with Mantel’s senior design engineers to perform process analysis/calculation/modeling, equipment specification including component sizing and data sheet review, PHA/HAZOP execution, create and optimize startup/shutdown procedures, QA/QC development, and cross-discipline coordination with Mantel R&D team. Mantel is looking for a well-organized, versatile technical problem solver who can think outside the box and communicate effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Chemical, Mechanical)

· Experience in industrial boiler/fired heater/plant design, operation, and maintenance

· Field experience in industrial boiler/plant commissioning

· Strong background in safe plant operation, industrial safety, and process hazard analysis

· Thorough understanding of engineering drawings, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and engineering commissioning/operating procedures

Desired Qualifications:

· Experience with molten salt or carbon capture systems

· Experience with boiler and steam subsystem's

· Experience with ASPEN HYSYS, HTRI, CAD software

· Experience working with external EPCs

* Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of experience in an industrial setting.

* Location: Hybrid (Cambridge, MA). Travel (1-2 weeks at a time) to partner and customer sites is required.

* Compensation & Benefits – we provide competitive and holistic compensation to all our full-time team members, including:

· Highly competitive pay based on experience, option to include equity

· 90% subsidized medical and dental healthcare coverage

· Unlimited vacation policy, mental health personal days, generous sick leave, plus a week-long winter break at the end of December

· Health/Fitness and cell phone stipend

This is an exciting opportunity to be an early hire in a new, well-funded company, with significant opportunity for advancement.
