Job Description
Mantel is developing the first molten-salt-based carbon capture technology which is designed to operate at the high temperatures found inside boilers, kilns, and furnaces – enabling highly efficient carbon capture that has not been possible until now. Carbon capture can be applied across industries to reduce emissions and achieve net-negative emissions. By solving for efficiency Mantel can cut costs substantially, unlocking carbon capture’s role in reaching net zero emissions by 2050. To learn more, go to: https://www.mantelcapture.com/
Mantel is seeking a Plant Performance Process Engineer to join a promising carbon capture startup working on the development of molten salts as a novel CO2 sorbent material. This role combines process engineering expertise with plant performance optimization to design, build, commission, and operate Mantel’s first-of-a-kind systems. The Engineer will collaborate with Mantel’s engineers and partner EPCs to perform process modeling, including the development and validation of process and system operation models to support demonstration plant scale-up and transition to commercial systems. Responsibilities include extensive hands-on onsite process support, equipment sizing/costing, identification of data gaps, and validation testing needs. The Engineer will also work with Mantel’s senior design engineers to conduct process analysis/calculation/modeling, specify equipment (including component sizing and data sheet review), create and optimize startup/shutdown procedures, and coordinate cross-discipline efforts with Mantel’s R&D team. Overtime and extended travel during startup and commissioning of units is required. Mantel is looking for a well-organized, versatile technical problem solver who can think outside the box and communicate effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical or related field)
- 10+ years of hands-on onsite experience in the US in petrochemical plant design, operation, and maintenance, with a focus on high-temperature processes
- Extensive hands-on onsite experience in the US in both operating and commissioning petrochemical plants or high-temperature systems
- Strong background in safe plant operation, industrial safety, and process hazard analysis
- Thorough understanding of US engineering standards, engineering drawings, P&IDs, equipment specifications, DCS controls, and engineering commissioning/operating procedures
Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity with HAZOPs, HAZIDs, and LOPA analysis work is a plus
- Experience with starting and debugging first-of-a-kind systems is a plus
- Carbon Capture Experience
- Experience with molten salt systems, steam methane reformers (SMRs), or other high-temperature process systems
Location: Remote. Up to 50% travel may be required, with extended travel during startup and commissioning of units.
Compensation & Benefits – we provide competitive and holistic compensation to all our full-time team members, including:
- Highly competitive pay based on experience, including equity
- 90% subsidized medical and dental healthcare coverage, 50% for dependents
- Unlimited vacation policy, mental health personal days, generous sick leave, plus a week-long winter break at the end of December
- Health/Fitness and cell phone stipend
- Company matched 401k
- Generous parental leave
- Access to FSA/HSA and commuter benefits accounts
This is an exciting opportunity to be an early hire in a new, well-funded company, with significant opportunity for advancement.
