Job Description

Join the Powertrain Team based in Bristol as a Junior Modelling Engineer and help us to achieve our mission of pioneering electric aviation.

This role will suit a recent graduate who has amassed between 2-4 years post education experience in a commercial environment. Unfortunately we cannot consider applicants who do not have any post university commercial work experience, although this does not apply to PhD applicants.

What success will look like for you as a Junior Modelling Engineer?

As a Junior Modelling Engineer, the role will focus on developing our cell ageing model, which centres around dictating the best approach to predicting the cell capacity fade, and power fade, for both first and second life applications. This will involve taking ownership of delivering the cell degradation model, requiring development of battery models in Matlab/Simulink/Simscape, and supporting the cell and pack model as well as the algorithm development for the Battery Management Systems. You'll need to be comfortable working with complex data, as you'll be responsible for the data conversion and cleaning process as well as generation of summarised insights from our testing data. We'll also need you to pro-actively develop key cross-functional working relationships with the Electrochemistry and Test teams to enable you to deliver on the role objectives.

What we would like you to bring.

We want you to be successful in your role, in order to achieve this, you will need a relevant degree in Applied Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Aerospace, Systems, Chemistry, or Computer Engineering or related engineering field. You'll need some exposure either during education, or post-education, developing mathematical models, statistical analysis and data visualisation as well as experience with advanced Matlab programming, Simulink and Simscape modelling skills.

What can you expect from us?

We're on a mission. Where others see limits, we see opportunity, and we work at pace. Working at Vertical isn't your average role but for those seeking a challenge, a flexible, supportive organisation and an incredible team; working here is an opportunity to do the best work of your career.

Our approach promotes ingenuity and courage, while our environment builds success through diligence in safety and being open in the way we work. The only way we're going to assure the next chapter of aviation history is by working as a team, relentlessly, towards our goal.
