About the role

We are looking for an experienced Backend Engineer to play a pivotal role in the development of our carbon software, used by our online retail customers to help them measure, monitor and reduce their environmental carbon footprint.

By joining Vaayu you will be part of a fast-growing start-up and have the opportunity to help shape everything that comes next. This role is perfect for someone with an eagerness to work on a complex service-oriented codebase, handling extensive requests, mastering graph-based data and who enjoys leading their own work. Please note that this is a fully remote job position. We do not support relocation or visa sponsorship.

What this looks like (Responsibilities):

• Build, maintain and optimize data-driven systems with a high degree of autonomy.
• Architect modular, scalable, and maintainable solutions, preparing our systems to manage increasing data loads and scale to process hundreds of millions of transactions a day.
• Design effective data structures and oversee database operations, ensuring data integrity and optimized queries
• Proactively identify areas for improvement within the codebase, proposing and implementing solutions that enhance efficiency, security and reliability
• Take full ownership of your work.
• Build internal management tools working on all layers of the stack including the frontend.

Who we are looking for (qualifications)

• You know how to build robust, scalable systems from the ground up
• Multiple years of experience in architecting and developing complex backend solutions
• Relevant experience with writing code in Golang
• Familiarity with our technology stack is a big plus. We currently use the following:
• Programming languages: Golang, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript
• Databases: Neo4j, Postgresql (Cloud SQL), Redis
• Infrastructure: Google Cloud Platform, Google Kubernetes Engine, Docker
• Other key technologies: Kafka, JSON REST APIs, React
• Ability to quickly learn and master new technologies
• Experience in DevOps practices like scaling, monitoring, logging and maintaining cloud-based deployment pipelines is a plus.
• Enjoy working collaboratively within a team, as well as autonomously.
• A proactive passion for solving climate change.
• Fluent in English.
