Job Description

UtilityAPI is building the next generation of data infrastructure systems to power the clean energy revolution. Energy data is critical for the development and deployment of renewable energy systems, but is complex to obtain and interpret. UtilityAPI has extensive experience building systems that provide this data to enable renewable energy companies, and we are looking for an experienced Manager of Engineering that wants to lead the teams architecting, building, and deploying the platform that will support a new generation of products to accelerate the clean energy industry.

The Platform Team at UtilityAPI builds and maintains the infrastructure that powers the UtilityAPI platform and products. As the Manager of Engineering, you will manage the DevSecOps and Shared Platforms teams, who are jointly responsible for the reliability, performance, security, and scalability of the UtilityAPI platform. We are scaling our operations and looking to support an increasing number of clients and use cases, and the Manager of Engineering will define the organizational structure and engineering strategy to achieve economies of scale in our platform operations.

We have been fully remote since 2019 and provide flexible working hours. We are mission-driven and prioritize work in service of the renewable energy transition as well as in service to our teammates. We believe that empathy combined with excellence leads to a highly effective team.

Our stack consists of Python, Django, and Javascript, running on Nginx, Postgres, and Redis, hosted on AWS. We manage work using Jira and Github, and communicate using Slack.

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage two teams of engineers, giving regular feedback on their work through 1-1 meetings, code reviews, and performance reviews
  • Work cross-functionally with stakeholders to drive the creation and delivery of roadmap items that will increase the stability, scalability, performance, and security of the UtilityAPI platform
  • Create, modify, and run team processes to ensure teams are well-supported and effective
  • Be responsible for maintaining and performing various certifications, such as SOC II
  • In collaboration with the Principal Engineer, develop technical strategies and be responsible for executing them
  • Build and demonstrate a culture of excellence and empathy within the engineering teams

Your Experience:

  • 5+ years in a software development environment, with at least 2 of those years in a management role
  • Demonstrated experience implementing effective processes in engineering teams
  • Experience with completing security audits and working with security auditors on certifications such as SOC II
  • Experience hiring, training, and giving feedback to software and platform engineers
  • Experience working with ambiguous requirements
  • Experience with cloud providers such as AWS

Compensation:

The estimated annual base salary range for this role is:

$150,000 - $165,000
