Job Description

In 2021 Turntide acquired three North East businesses to establish our presence in the UK – those businesses were Borg Warner in Gateshead, Hyperdrive in Sunderland and Avid in Cramlington. The acquisitions allowed us to extend our Smart Motor System to the transportation sector and help turn the tide on climate change.

There is a massive change happening across Transportation. Companies are working furiously to develop new electrified platforms to meet the demands of their customers and do their part to reduce carbon emissions. Our Turntide for Electrification solutions help ease the customer journey and accelerate their transition. The faster they can transform, the better it is for our planet.

A Senior Engineer’s primary responsibility will be to develop and test battery and hybrid systems and support the customer in the integration of the battery product into various applications. The role is based at our site in Sunderland and reports into the System Engineer Lead.

For this role training and upskilling will be provided and we are open to considering potential candidates with backgrounds of either:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electro-Mechanical engineering
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Test engineering
  • Product Engineering / Product design
  • Manufacturing engineering

Job Role

In this role the Senior Engineer will be responsible for the following:

  • Developing and testing state of the art battery and hybrid systems.
  • Defining System Requirements for new battery product and manage requirements flow down.
  • Working closely with Product and Customers to integrate Turntide battery products into various applications ranging from vehicles to power generation and UPS systems.
  • Developing knowledge and understanding of Turntide Battery Management Systems.
  • Carrying out in-depth system testing of battery systems.
  • Providing detailed reporting and documentation for work carried out.
  • Providing training and support to Turntide customers.
  • Developing innovative methods to constantly improve our products and testing methods.
  • Providing timely feedback and reporting to the design teams for product improvement.
  • Develop product specifications and manuals.
  • Write test procedures.
  • Develop Design Verification Plan & Results process and perform system level FMEA.

Experience and Skills

We’re ideally looking for candidates with the following experience and skills:

  • Testing and development of new products.
  • Ability to read test plans, interpret test results and to conduct investigations.
  • Understanding of electronics, mechanical systems and firmware.
  • Experience of setting up safe systems of work.
  • Good problem solving and IT skills.

It would also be great (but not essential) if in addition to the above you also had:

  • System engineering knowledge.
  • Requirements management experience.
  • Firmware testing experience.
  • Demonstrate ability to acquire information and knowledge.
  • Strong career progression in a highly technical industry such as automotive, robotics, power generation or marine.

Qualifications

A degree or equivalent in the following discipline is required: Engineering, preferably Electronics or Electrical

  • Must model highest degree of moral and ethical behaviour
  • Must be able to work alone with minimum guidance, but also be able to operate effectively as part of a team.
  • Confident, thoughtful and able to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical team members
  • Ability to mentor and train effectively, supporting development through hands-on or practical experience.
  • Must have an agile approach to work
  • Tackle problems with creativity and innovation
  • Hungry for success, self-motivated, results-driven, and ambitious
