Job Description

The Weather team is a mixture of scientists and engineers committed to generating the best and most novel data and models across all times: historical, real-time and forecast. The team is dedicated to building internal infrastructure and software to support scientists in their daily work of bringing research to operations. This team is responsible for maintaining critical dependencies of applications and services throughout the science team, providing guidance and assistance for their development work, and troubleshooting and resolving issues.

We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Software Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing and maintaining our suite of software solutions. Your primary responsibilities will include programming in Python, Go, and some bash scripting. The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is comfortable working with complex systems, and has a passion for delivering high-quality software.

What you will do:

  • Design, develop, and maintain software solutions using Python, Go, and Bash scripting.
  • Work effectively with Docker for containerization and orchestration.
  • Utilize Kubernetes for managing containerized applications and GitHub Actions for continuous integration and continuous deployment.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Git for version control, including providing and receiving constructive feedback on pull requests.
  • Diagnosing problems, familiar with using debuggers in your chosen programming languages.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality products on schedule.
  • Participate in code reviews, ensuring adherence to coding standards and best practices.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
  • At least 2 years of experience in Python, Go, and Bash scripting.
  • Proficiency with Docker, Kubernetes, and GitHub Actions.
  • Solid understanding of Git, including experience with pull requests and code review processes.
  • Ability to debug and troubleshoot software issues effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with gridded datasets such as GRIB and NETCDF.
  • Experience with Datadog for metrics and monitoring.
  • Knowledge of front-end web development with React or Angular.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
