Overview of the role

Placed within the Facilities Engineering team, the Facilities Engineering Manager be responsible for a programme of infrastructure improvements across our site, both office and laboratory based.

This could include creating and managing designs, surveying, and developing new and existing system layouts and working with the projects departments to optimise future designs and coordinate this information throughout the business using appropriate tools. It may also include the planning and implementation of facilities projects as well as overseeing installation, putting safety at the heart of all work.

This role may also be responsible for site contingency planning, site emergency response and site legal compliance in conjunction with the Environment, Health and Safety team.

In this role, you will:

  • Have overall design autonomy of the entire estate
  • Carry out onsite surveying, create site plans and schematic layouts, 2D and 3D. Design system layouts, HVAC, piping and power distribution. Oversee installations, commissioning, plant acceptance, test certificates and witness testing
  • Co-ordinate and lead design review meetings
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and engineers
  • Schedule time, materials & cost estimates for facilities work packages
  • Change control, documentation & asset management
  • Be responsible for the management of our FM contract.
  • Oversee the Facilities ticketing system, ensuring jobs are closed out in a timely manner.

The post holder will also deputise for the Head of Facilities Engineering as and when required. This will include being the first point of contact for site disruptions (along with a team of others). It will also include attending meetings on behalf of the Head of Facilities and managing the team where necessary.

This is a proactive hands-on role which requires the post holder to be on-site for the majority of the working week.

Hazard-specific / Safety-critical duties

This job includes the following hazards or safety-critical activities which will require successful pre-employment health screening through our occupational health service before the successful candidate will be allowed to start work:

  • Working at height (ladders, scissor lifts, cherry pickers & scaffolding)
  • Regular manual handling
  • Driving on Company business
  • Working with or in the vicinity of equipment that produces high magnetic fields

Requirements

Essential:

  • Minimum of HNC in an engineering discipline
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems
  • Knowledge of Inventor, Autocad, Vault
  • Managing own workload and ability to work independently
  • Project engineering – analysis and research
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced and demanding environment
  • Experience of leading a team
  • An understanding of and experience in facilities or estate management

Desirable:

  • Use of LIDAR
  • Knowledge of construction in an industrial setting
  • Knowledge and use of point cloud data
  • Ability to produce equipment & system specifications
  • Ability to make hand calculations
  • Membership of a professional body
  • Engineering Degree

Working arrangements

Please note, due to the nature of work for role 100% onsite working is required and hybrid working is not currently an option. There will be an opportunity to discuss hybrid working once the role holder has settled into the company.
