TITLE: Deterministic Safety Analysis Team Manager

Deterministic Safety Analysis Team Manager

The Natrium Deterministic Safety Analysis Team Manager reports directly to the Senior Manager, Natrium Safety Analysis & Risk. This position is primarily responsible for managing a dedicated team of engineers performing Licensing Basis Events (LBE) analyses using Sodium-Cooled Fast Reactor (SFR) systems analysis modeling and simulation tools to support the Natrium design and licensing. This position also supports the senior manager in project scheduling and reporting activities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy analytical methods, computational models and perform plant LBE analyses to support the Natrium design and licensing process
  • Establish and maintain documentation of model and methods development, and analysis results
  • Interface with regulators, stakeholders, and reactor designers on safety analysis and engineering design issues
  • Work with the Senior Manager and Project Account Engineer to develop and maintain the subproject schedule and budget
  • Effectively communicate project expectations and assignments to team members
  • Manage the Deterministic Safety Analysis Team to deliver project work within schedule and cost constraints
  • Communicate the status of engineering progress to the team, stakeholders and management
  • Keep the Senior Manager and other engineering management informed of major emerging technical issues
  • Assure compliance to procedures, standards and regulatory criteria
  • Ensure that engineering work is performed with a high level of integrity through rigorous enforcement of work processes and technical reviews of team deliverables
  • Demonstrate visible, continuous leadership in the areas of Safety and Quality
  • Implement quality assurance policy and requirements for the project.
  • Recommend staff changes (new additions, replacements due to attrition, de-staffing) and work with Human Resources to manage approved staffing changes.
  • Support the development of direct reports through mentoring, training, and challenging assignments
  • Review and concur with technical content of SOWs and subcontract packages prior to bid

Key Qualifications and Skills

  • B.S. or higher in nuclear engineering or other relevant engineering degree, with a minimum of 8 years’ experience in the nuclear field
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in nuclear quality programs, design control, and configuration management principles, practices, and tools are required.
  • Advanced knowledge of NQA-1 requirements associated with analysis and software management as well as experience working under a quality assurance programs
  • Candidate must be a self-starter and possess ability to perform both individually and as a team contributor; proven ability to direct small teams with minimal oversight is preferred.
  • The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, able to communicate openly, and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.
  • Proven track record in planning, budgeting, and execution of testing or modeling activities
  • Proven track record in successful management and leadership
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • In-depth knowledge of neutronics, fuel performance, nuclear systems thermal-hydraulics as well as reactor dynamics and transient phenomena
  • Significant experience with performing reactor safety analysis using codes such as SAS4A/SASSYS-1, RELAP5, TRACE or equivalent
  • Familiarity with nuclear design, regulatory requirements, and risk-informed performance-based technology guidance for Non-Light Water Reactors is required
  • Experience with SFR safety analysis is highly desirable. Experience with other reactor designs can be considered with differentiating candidates
  • Experience in working in multi-disciplinary engineering teams to address engineering challenges
  • Demonstrated strong quantitative, analytical, modeling and reporting skills

Job details

Salary Range Level 12: $163,702 - $226,844

*Typically, our employee salaries are within .90 – 1.0 of the mid-point of the posted salary bands. Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience. This range is specific to Washington State.
