LOCATION: Bellevue, WA, USA

Core Thermal Hydraulics Analysis Engineering Manager

The Core Thermal Hydraulics Manager is a dedicated position focused on managing a team of thermal hydraulics engineers. The Core Thermal Hydraulics group is responsible for methodology development and performing analyses supporting the reactor core of the Natrium Demonstration Reactor. Various scales of analysis tools ranging from Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to first principles are used to provide inputs to other groups. The Engineering Manager will work as part of a high functioning team of engineers and scientists focused on developing the design of next generation advanced nuclear reactors.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of code developers and analysts and their thermal hydraulic methods and analyses of the reactor core to determine flow and heat transfer performance.
  • Manage the team’s development of required inputs and methodologies to establish systems models and thermal hydraulic loads for critical reactor components and interfaces.
  • Provide technical insights, mentorship and support high quality, clear work packages.
  • Work with interdisciplinary team of engineers to establish and optimize nuclear components design consistent with required functional and quality requirements.
  • Support the development of methodologies including verification and validation test development.
  • Identify, define, and coordinate activities required for the successful design, analysis, and verification of reactor structures and components.
  • Establish, review, approve and maintain documents of analysis results and design solutions.
  • Establish and maintain schedule for the group.
  • Participate in management discussions on strategy, budget, goals, resources, and team performance.

Key Qualifications and Skills

  • B.S, M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical, Nuclear, or other relevant technical Engineering area from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in thermal hydraulic analysis with a B.S. degree, or 8+ years with an M.S. or Ph.D. degree with a demonstrated ability to produce a high-quality work product.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in coordinate of technical project teams with a demonstrated ability to meet project goals.
  • Desired 2 years of experience in management of personnel. This includes resource loading, work planning, and career development.
  • Experience interfacing with other engineering disciplines including design and test.
  • Proficient in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis, thermal hydraulics methods and commercial CFD tools with emphasis on STAR-CCM+.
  • Strong understanding of thermal hydraulic principles and heat transfer.
  • Knowledge of thermal hydraulic phenomena involved in sodium fast reactor a plus.
  • Candidate should have demonstrated experience in thermal hydraulic analysis using CFD or other analysis tools.
  • Experience working under stringent quality assurance requirements such as ASME NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.
  • The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.
  • Actual position starting level and title will be determined based on assessment of qualifications.

Salary Range Level 12: $ 163,702 - $ 226,844

*Typically, our employee salaries are within .90 – 1.0 of the mid-point of the posted salary band. Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected individual’s qualifications and experience. This range is specific to Washington State.
