This role will work as part of a high functioning team of engineers and scientists focused on the development and design of plants, processes, systems, components, and materials for the MCFR technology. TerraPower’s MCFR program is partnered with academic, utility, and industry leaders to develop the supply chain, reactor technology, and material science in support of future commercial molten chloride fast reactors. Your role will include interfacing with a team of scientists and engineers with both experimental and process design activities. You will investigate and develop creative solutions for the MCFR and associated technology. Candidates must have extensive experience in one or more of the following areas: chemical engineering, chemical process design, or plant design, with an ability to document design efforts according to the highest quality standards, such as NQA-1.

Responsibilities

· Interface with various project teams to develop chemical processes/systems that meet programmatic objectives for a wide range of MCFR initiatives, including fuel salt synthesis, fuel salt polishing, fuel salt sampling, and fuel salt disposal process engineering tasks.

· Coordinate input and requirements from program management, engineering, and analysis teams to produce chemical process design solutions.

· Apply Systems Engineering principles and methods (e.g. requirements definition, interface management) to the design of nuclear and industrial facilities and their systems.

· Generate system process design work packages, including process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation drawings (P&IDs), heat and mass balances, and equipment lists.

· Support project management activities such as project schedule, resource management, and cost estimation.

· Support experimental, analytical, and design work of other engineers, scientists, and subject matter experts on the MCFR team.

· Present designs and analysis results for design reviews.

· Develop test requirements and plans for testing unique phenomena in a high-temperature molten salt environment and interface with the responsible groups for laboratory-scale testing activities.

· Perform analyses and generate technical reports.

· Interface with subcontractors and partners to aid in integration of their work.

· Contribute to proposals, presentations, or reports that further the MCFR program.

· Support development and maintenance of resources (guides, procedures, software, etc.) to meet system design discipline and program needs.

· Support continuous learning and application of nuclear industry best practices in order to maintain the highest quality of engineering design and proactively identify process change/enhancement opportunities.
