TITLE: Applied Quality Engineer

LOCATION: Bellevue, WA, USA

Applied Quality Engineer

TerraPower, LLC is seeking a highly motivated Applied Quality Engineer to support the Natrium Department in general quality processes with emphasis on Non-Safety with Special Treatment (NSRST), Commercial Grade Dedication (CGD), and supplier oversight on quality related items including data package development. This role reports to the Natrium Procurement Group. Integrated support with project team members including engineering, procurement, construction, administrative services, commissioning, and other project personnel is a key role. This role is not a quality oversight role.


Responsibilities

  • Develop, in conjunction with appropriate Natrium stakeholders, non-safety related with special treatment (NSRST) criteria per NEI-18-04 (Non-LWR Risk Based Safety Classification Guidance Document) for the appropriate SSCs.
  • Develop, in conjunction with appropriate Natrium stakeholders, commercial grade dedication (CGD) plans, procedures, and reports in accordance with NQA-1 requirements and guidance provided in EPRI NP-5652.
  • Identify and document component critical characteristics and performance acceptance criteria; Identify dedication method(s) for verification of acceptance criteria
  • Support supplier oversight with respect to quality issues as appropriate including data package development and review.
  • Provide quality requirements to Specifications, Statements of Work, Acceptance and Test Plans, Quality Program Requirements, Purchase Requisitions/Orders, etc.
  • Review of material/service requisitions, technical bid evaluation and supplier submittals to ensure compliance with quality management system requirements.
  • Assists in the definition of supplier data package requirements to support procurement acceptance.
  • Lead quality initiatives and activities on the project by coordinating with Natrium Project Management and other stakeholders to ensure management goals and objectives are met.
  • Review supplier project quality program/plan submittals for compliance with project requirements.
  • Participate in kick off / Pre-inspection meetings with vendors / suppliers as required.
  • Identifies quality problems, initiates documented action, and verifies implementation of solutions for effectiveness.
  • Review of multi-discipline engineering deliverables to ensure cohesiveness, coordination, and quality.
  • Coordinate quality reviews of supplier submittal packages.
  • Review project engineering procedures to ensure alignment with Quality Assurance Program Requirements.
  • Recommend actions to project personnel to correct identified quality deficiencies and ensure the effectiveness of action taken.
  • Conduct/participate in Apparent Cause Analysis and Root Cause Analysis as required.

    Key Qualifications and Skills
    • Bachelor of Science Degree, master’s degree preferred or 15 years equivalent experience.
    • Professional Engineering license preferred.
    • Experience and knowledge with: NQA-1-2015 and CGD requirements and NRC CGD requirements and guidelines.
    • Comprehensive knowledge, understanding and ability to apply 10CFR50 App B, 10CFR21, and ASME NQA-1- 2015, requirements to nuclear facility programs.
    • In depth experience with communicating with technical personnel on quality topics
    • Previous experience in technical interface with engineering groups.
    • A broad understanding of the various engineering disciplines and how they interrelate is important.
    • Demonstrated experience from a quality perspective with design controls, design verification and validation activities, process controls, construction or start-up activities, and risk management.
    • On-site arrangement is preferred, but remote work will be considered based on candidate assessment.
    • The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trustworthiness and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork
    • Nuclear field experience preferred but not required
    • Note: Actual position starting level and title will be determined based on assessment of qualifications.

  • Work Conditions: Stairs, typing/keyboard, standard and/or sitting working environment of >8 hrs./day
  • Travel required: 5-10% initially but increasing as supplier oversight requires

TerraPower’s technology is controlled for export by various agencies of the U.S. Government. Salary Range Level 12: $157,406 - $218,119
*Typically, our employee salaries are within .90 – 1.0 of the mid-point of the posted salary band. Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected individual’s qualifications and experience. This range is specific to Washington State.
