Job Description

Do Epic Science
TAE is the world’s first private fusion energy company, founded in 1998 to commercialize the cleanest, safest, most affordable, and sustainable form of carbon-free power. We are applying science and engineering to design transformational technologies. Whether it's harnessing fusion through the science of stars, making exponential leaps in power efficiency, or innovating medical care with a novel cancer treatment: We're turning the promise of science into reality.

We’re looking for candidates who are passionate about realizing our mission: A future where all people have affordable access to reliable, abundant, and environmentally friendly fusion-generated electricity.

About The Role

We currently have an opening at our Foothill Ranch, CA (Orange County) facility for a Sr. RF Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, procurement, and operation of high-power radio frequency (RF) generators, transmission lines and instrumentation in the short wave and microwave frequency range. This is a full-time position.

TAE Technologies is developing radio frequency systems for a number of applications, including plasma heating on our current and next generation fusion devices and for plasma sources in auxiliary systems. The systems will span a variety of operational frequencies (e.g., 10 MHz to 10 GHz) and range of powers (e.g., 10s kW to 1 MW).

The successful candidate will join the Engineering Group to develop these technologies from the design of the antennas, matching networks, transmission lines and instrumentation, to the procurement of component parts, to the commissioning and operation of the systems. He or she will work closely with RF physicists to design systems that meet stated requirements.

About You

  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink or other applications used in the modelling of antennas, matching networks and transmission lines
  • Experience with RF hardware from ~50 kW power levels and greater using solid state or vacuum tube technology
  • Amplitude, frequency and phase control of multiple sources
  • Ability to present complex RF problems in simple and effective manner
  • Ability to work independently as well as a member of the RF Team
  • Accuracy and the ability to identify and correct shortcomings in proposals and designs
  • Ability to rapidly gain new knowledge of RF systems and to identify new approaches
  • At least 5 years’ experience with radio frequency systems in an industrial, scientific, or broadcasting environment
  • Interest in large science or R&D projects is a plus
