About The Role

We currently have an opening at our Foothill Ranch, CA (Orange County) facility for Spectroscopy Scientist for our Fusion Spectroscopy and Imaging Diagnostic group. The successful candidate have the great opportunity to work closely with a talented team of scientists and engineers working toward a clean, compact, affordable and safe fusion energy solution to provide a sustainable future for us all. This is a full-time position.

  • Perform data analysis and work with a team experimental and theory/computational scientists to validate the models and provide a coherent scientific interpretation.
  • Help maintain and improve the existing spectroscopy and optical diagnostics.
  • Design, develop, deploy and maintain the new optical and spectroscopy diagnostics to diagnose beam driven Field Reversed Configuration (FRC) plasma.
  • Participate in the operation of TAE's fusion experimental device, propose experiments, and provide diagnostic support and data interpretation.
  • Present analyzed data and physics results in meetings internally as well as externally at scientific meetings and conferences. Write scientific reports and papers.

About You

  • 2-5 year experience of experimental plasma physics or related field. Experience in fusion physics and diagnostic development is a plus.
  • Experience with scientific analysis languages (Python, Matlab, IDL, etc.) required.
  • Basic understanding and experience of electronics, electrical and data acquisition systems.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal. Experience of writing scientific papers to publish in international journals.
  • Capability to work in fast pace and changing environment and with multiple projects.
  • Knowledge advanced fusion plasma spectroscopy diagnostics like Charge Exchange Recombination Spectroscopy (ChERS), Fast Ion D-alpha (FIDA), etc. is desirable.
  • Experience in data mining with MDS+, SQL, etc. is a plus.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite required.
  • Experience with project collaboration platforms and document management systems preferred.

Education:

  • Required Education: Ph.D. degree in Physics or a closely related area
