About the Role:

Develops concept manufacturing method. Ensures design compatibility. Reduces part count, introduces poke yokes, engages Manufacturing team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Key Aspects of the role

• Early engagement in the design concept phase.
• Influences the product design for rapid product introduction.
• Help develop & standardise design approach.

Required Education & Experience:

• Required:
• Formal DFM training (keyword Boothroyd Dewhurst / Munro & Associates).
• Has led DFM workshops, can demonstrate outcomes.
• Low volume manufacturing experience.
• Ideally li-ion traction battery experience.
• Experience generating production documentation, BoM, routing, layout, process flow, standard work & control plan.
• Desired:
• FMEA / DVP experience.
• PFMEA development.
• Formal training in risk assessment.
• Predicts assembly cost.

Safety & Environmental

• Highlights feasibility & safety issues within the design.
• Champions Health & Safety awareness in the design process.
• Responsible for adhering to EHS procedures & policies to ensure compliance.

System or Knowledge

• Formal Design for Manufacture / Lean Design principles, Boothroyd and Dewhurst experience desirable.
• Develop / subcontract fixtures and tooling for assembly tasks.
• APQP.
• COSHH awareness.

Personal Attributes

• Keen interest in the state of the art, particularly in respect to battery manufacturing.
• Questioning nature, ability to express your needs and shape the project at hand.
• Hands-on approach to problem solving.
• Persuasive negotiator.
• Engaging personality.
• Desirable:
• Experience training operations personnel.
• Experience with design and implementation for li-ion traction batteries.

Other Features of job

• Eligible to work in the UK.
• This role is based at our Head Office at Birmingham Business Park OR Dudley, 0900 to 1700, including 30-minute paid break 5 days a week.
• Travel occasionally.
