Job Description

Skeleton's Scale-Up department is looking for a driven

Process Safety Engineer (m/f/x)

with the vision to match our ambition!

We are looking for an experienced Process Safety Engineer (m/f/x) for our plant in Leipzig or Bitterfeld-Wolfen who truly believes that the world needs Special Forces to fight climate change and reduce CO2 emissions.

What you'll do:

  • Develop and implement site specific safety protocols and procedures, ensuring alignment with local/regional regulations.
  • Facilitate and or coordinate process safety hazard identification and risk assessment studies using an appropriate selection of suitable methodologies which may include HAZOP, FMEA, Fault Tree Analyses etc.
  • Co-ordinate external risk assessment studies where necessary. Ensure the delivered risk assessment studies meet the necessary company quality specifications.
  • Lead the process safety investigations. In addition, coordinate the lessons learned as well as the necessary preventive and corrective actions.
  • Review and approve the classification of process safety incidents.
  • Establish, track and monitor actions arising from risk assessments, compliance audits, incident investigations & continuous improvement or gap closure plans.
  • Provide process safety guidance during the change management processes.
  • Support the identification of process safety critical equipment. Perform checks on the preventive maintenance plans with specific focus on overdue inspections and safety critical equipment.
  • Lead internal process safety inspections, audits, and reviews.
  • Assist operations team to prepare for external audits. This involves collecting information, assisting with planning, follow up and tracking the status of corrective actions.
  • Establish and monitor process safety KPIs in Curved Graphene manufacturing. Provide guidance and suggestions on potential focus areas.
  • Advise and influence site operations team on how to improve process safety (plans, targets, lessons learned, best practices, etc.). Assist with the development of a site-specific continuous improvement plan.
  • Ensure that process safety incident learnings are fully implemented within the site’s process safety instructions.
  • Support the communication with permitting authorities or construction contractors in relation to the safety aspects of the plant.

Requirements

To succeed in this position, you'll need:

  • University Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • At least 3-5 years of relevant experience in one or more of the following areas: Safety, Operations and / or Engineering Design
  • Working experience with hazard identification, risk analyses and assessment methodologies (e.g. Hazard Identification (HAZID), HAZOP studies, Inherent SHE Review, PHAs) desirable
  • Working knowledge of industry codes, standards and practices relevant to process design and safety
  • Proven track record in design of operational safety concepts, improvement of existing processes and implementation of process safety equipment
  • Working experience in the following areas will be an added advantage:
  • Dust explosion risk management and protection
  • Proficient technical report writing skills
  • Building and Construction – basic knowledge of safe materials, methods, and tools involved in handling high-temperature and flammable process conditions.
  • Participation in chemical plant construction projects is highly preferred.
  • Ability to work in an international team, strong English skills (oral and written) are required. German is considered a benefit.
