Job Description

We are the Global CleanTech100 company and European market leader in ultracapacitors and graphene-based energy-storage systems. Skeleton has grown from 4 people to over 300 and has raised 200 million EUR financing to scale up manufacturing and execute the ambitious technology road map from high energy ultracapacitors to Superbatteries.

Skeleton Technologies is already successfully delivering products to leading customers ranging from Škoda, Danfoss, Medcom, Wrightbus to leading German Automotives and European Space Agency. The company's current ultracapacitors have the highest power density in the market and the technology is mature evidence by strong customer contracts and IATF 16949 automotive certification.

But we have achieved only 0.1% of our potential. In order to achieve the 99.9%, we are looking for an experienced Chemical Plant Construction Manager who will be responsible for building a mass production plant for our unique material curved graphene. You would be responsible for the equipment, auxiliaries and building specifications, procurement, installation, and successful ramp up. You would work closely with engineers, architects and other construction professionals to ensure that the plant is built according to the specifications, on time, within budget and having safety as a priority.

The plant will be located in Bitterfeld-Wolfen, Germany, and the role requires regular visits to the site.

Key responsibilities:

  • Design and Engineering: Plant and equipment design, process flows. Adhering to safety, environmental and regulatory standards in all design aspects; Ensuring that all needed permits are acquired.
  • Procurement and Vendor Management: Select appropriate vendors for equipment, building, materials, and technology required for carbon synthesis. Manage relationships, negotiations, and procurement processes.
  • Product COGS and Process Optimization: Apply chemical engineering principles to optimize the carbon synthesis process for efficiency, yield and quality; Plan, set strategies and hit the COGS targets.
  • Quality Assurance and Compliance: Establish quality control measures to ensure the final product meets specifications and quality standards; Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, permits, and environmental guidelines.
  • Budget management: Manage the project budget, track expenditures, ensure cost control; Provide regular budget updates to senior management.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and challenges in the project and develop mitigation strategies; Address unforeseen issues.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Clear and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders; Regular updates on the project.
  • Commissioning and Start-Up: Lead the commissioning process, ensure all systems and equipment functions as planned; Oversee the start-up of the new plant and coordinate operational procedures and trainings.

Requirements

To succeed in this position, you'll need:

  • Master's degree in chemical engineering or related field.
  • Proven experience in managing complex engineering projects within chemical industry.
  • Strong project management skills, including project planning, resource allocation, and risk management.
  • In-depth knowledge of chemical construction.
  • Experience with toxic gases (such as chlorine) and Hydrogen is a plus.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations, safety protocols, and environmental standards.
  • Excellent leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and software.
  • Business English skill is required, German language would be highly beneficial.
  • Ability to visit the site of the plant on continuous basis in Bitterfeld-Wolfen. It is a rather on-site role, so proximity to the plant as a residence or relocation to Leipzig area would be required.
