About Singularity: In order to decarbonize the grid, the world needs better carbon data and analytics. To support this mission, Singularity Energy is building the world's highest quality view of historical, real-time, and forecasted grid carbon emissions. Today, grid carbon data is siloed, outdated, and lacks spatial and temporal granularity, and with new climate pledges and decarbonization plans being announced every day, there is a tremendous need to get the underlying data right. We started by launching a data and analytics platform (with 1B+ data points and growing) that helps companies build carbon-aware products, and we're looking to grow our team in order to improve the sophistication of our offerings and expand our capabilities to become the 'carbon intelligence layer' for grid operators, utilities, companies, and service providers to build data-driven decarbonization solutions.

About the role: We’re looking for a data scientist to help develop our power system analysis product. You’ll own end-to-end development of features that turn complex power system data into actionable carbon insights, including development of our power flow modeling and power flow tracing capabilities. You’ll be working on a range of tasks including: translating real customer needs into data science problems, researching new algorithms, working with software engineers to bring new models into production, and publishing technical papers.

Ideal background:

  • Data Science: Data wrangling, data engineering, optimization, data visualization & storytelling
  • Power Systems: Power systems analysis and modeling, potentially including power flow modeling or production cost modeling
  • Software: Python for data science (eg Pandas, Plotly, statsmodels), Git, GitHub, APIs (eg, Requests python library), at least one power system modeling tool or energy management system (PyPSA, PSS/E, Plexos, etc.)

Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD in power systems, engineering, statistics, or data science; or 2-3 years working experience in the electric power industry
  • Proven track record of driving projects from ideation to completion
  • Excellent written and verbal communication

Optional qualifications (senior-level candidates):

  • 5+ years experience (or advanced degree plus 2-3 years experience in the electric power industry)
  • Experience developing analysis for production applications
  • Proven knowledge of power markets operations, administration and structures is highly desirable
  • Experience working with customers to understand their available data and analysis needs
  • Publications or blog posts in power systems, electricity markets, or data science
