Job Description

About Sesame Sustainability

At Sesame Sustainability we are developing simulation, optimization, and analysis software to accelerate cost-optimal decarbonization across heavy industry (responsible for over 40% of global emissions). Borne from research at the MIT Energy Initiative, our technology stack is tried, tested, and trusted by some of the largest players in energy and environment.

While we are not immediately filling for all roles, we are always excited to connect with those interested in joining us on our mission to squash industrial emissions. Whether you are looking for a full-time role or internship, drop us a line!

About the Engineering Team

Sesame Sustainability’s engineers play key roles in all aspects of in-house R&D and user-facing product development efforts. This primarily concerns the development and application of Sesame’s back-end capabilities in the modeling and optimization of industrial processes and technologies (from hydrogen electrolyzers to iron and steel manufacturing), distributed energy resources, and supply chain networks. Team members work closely with Sesame’s leadership to drive research efforts directly improving the Sesame platform as well as executing external projects and reports relevant to the business.

Sesame Sustainability is looking for well-organized, versatile technical problem solvers who can think outside the box and communicate effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

What your responsibilities may look like:

  • Bottom-up process modeling and analysis of novel energy systems, technologies, and supply chains
  • Developing and applying system- and process-level life cycle and techno-economic analysis for major energy and industry related pathways for strategic decision-making
  • Working closely with product team to synthesize and deploy new models, data streams, and analysis capabilities within Sesame Sustainability’s software platform
  • Preparation of internal and external technical presentations and written reports
  • Additional tasks include project schedule ownership, facilitation of weekly status meetings, technical deliverable review and tracking, and coordination with management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (completed or enrolled)
  • Experience in programming and/or data analysis (Python, MATLAB, etc.)
  • Basic proficiency in data management and the ability to work with large datasets
  • Background or relevant experience in one or more of i) process engineering/design, ii) life cycle analysis, iii) techno economic assessment and iv) modeling and optimization
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, being able to produce with minimal supervision and prioritize work to meet deadlines

Nice to Haves

  • Industry experience is not required, but a big plus
  • Experience in leading or mentoring a team, demonstrating leadership potential in addition to technical expertise
  • Strong collaboration skills and a history of working effectively with cross-functional teams or external partners
