Job Description

Our Mission at Scythe

Humanity has lost touch with nature - we’ve traded dirt and trees for asphalt, and we rely on loud, polluting, gas-powered machines to care for our limited natural spaces.

Scythe is forging a new future by building intelligent, all-electric machines that unlock a new superpower: the ability to care for the outdoors pollution-free at enormous scale. From today’s first steps in landscape maintenance to full-fledged re-terraforming in the future, Scythe is pioneering autonomous machinery that supports the ingenuity of humans, multiplying our power to nurture our planet.

At Scythe, you’ll work with a team of world-class experts in everything from computer vision to mechanical engineering, pushing the limits of possibility and growing by overcoming hurdles along the way.

The world needs what we’re building—come join us in making it a reality.

Frontend Web Development Intern at Scythe

If you love web development, working on projects that make a difference and getting out in the field to test your code; this is the place for you! You'll be working as part of Scythe's Web and Data team which deals with all things robot data and customer facing/internal apps.

Our testing team has a strong need for a tool to help them keep track of robots while testing and you'll get to build this web app from the ground up. You'll get to do everything from distilling our test team's needs into software features, building out the front end UI/UX and testing your app out in the field.

You’ll work in concert with teammates from across the company to build a rich understanding of product needs and bring those ideas to life. We expect you to be broadly experienced to be able to “see around corners”, to thrive in a fast-paced, self-managed engineering environment, and to be a collaborative, low-ego teammate who helps Scythe realize its big mission.

What you’ll do at Scythe

  • You'll be working on building a mobile friendly web app to help make the lives of our testing team much easier
  • Learning about how we test our robots and working with our test engineers to figure out the best tools to build to help one of the most critical parts of our software development process
  • Testing your app out in the field!

What you know well

  • You're currently at least a Sophmore in CS/SE/ECE/EE/Mechatronics or similar degree (Master/PhD are welcome!)
  • You've got experience working with Javascript frameworks (Preferably React, NextJs)
  • You can style web applications using CSS or CSS frameworks
  • Experience with APIs such as GraphQl or REST
  • You're very comfortable with standard software engineering tools (command line, git etc)
  • You can take ownership of a project and are willing to learn new things!

What you’ve maybe done

  • You can write unit/integration tests for your code
  • You've worked at a startup or have tried starting a company before
  • You've quickly learned new skills on the fly and have built cool things with those skills

Why Scythe?

  • Scythe is an early-stage but well-capitalized startup. Have a huge impact alongside an awesome team of experts shipping something the world has never before seen
  • Headquarters near beautiful Boulder, CO. Enjoy the bounties of nature and open spaces close to home with mountain biking, hiking, skiing and more.
