Job Description

RYSE is looking for an Intermediate level Mechanical Engineer to join our team. You will have the opportunity to wear multiple hats as you work on designing and manufacturing smart home IoT products.

Your main responsibility will be to support the mechanical design of new products and accessories being developed and to their deployment to mass production. You will take on R&D projects, as well as get involved in the design and deployment of test fixtures.

In doing so, you will be working closely with, and reporting directly to, the Lead Mechanical Engineer in the team, while collaborating with the Program Manager in China, Industrial Designer and Electronics Engineer.

This role requires a wide variety of skills and a good understanding of design for manufacturing, primarily design for injection molding, component/material selection & gearbox design to name a few. An ideal candidate would have a passion for problem solving, an attention to detail as well as an affinity to learn new skills and operate in a multi-faceted environment.

RYSE is a Canadian hardware company creating the next wave of window shade IoT products based on smart and simple designs. We’re about inventing new ‘Things’ and re-writing the rules in Hardware. Our flagship product, the RYSE SmartShade was launched as a smart device that motorizes and automates existing window coverings and is controllable via smartphones and SmartHome ecosystems. We are continuously introducing new products in the window shades space with several ongoing projects in various stages of design and manufacturing.

SALARY RANGE: $70,000 - $80,000

Requirements

  • Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
  • 3+ years of work experience
  • Intermediate-level experience with SolidWorks CAD, with knowledge of top-down/bottom-up assemblies, configuration management
  • Experience with designing parts for injection molding
  • Experience creating production engineering drawings with GD&T
  • Experienced with rapid prototyping methods, including 3D printing, CNC and using common workshop tools
  • Previously worked on designs that went into mass production would be a major advantage
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written) and an appreciation for producing good documentation
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or hold a valid Canadian work visa

Nice to have skills

  • An understanding of gear design and motor selection
  • An understanding of industrial design principles
  • Any experience working with a PDM program (such as SolidWorks PDM)
  • Basic understanding of electronics, knowing how to read a schematic and datasheet
  • Basic knowledge of programming
  • Experience in supply chain and logistics
