About Rondo Energy

Rondo Energy's mission is to eliminate 15% of global CO2 emissions in 15 years.

To accomplish this mission, Rondo is deploying low-cost, zero-carbon Rondo Heat Batteries to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy and to significantly decarbonize industrial processes that are commonly thought of as "difficult-to-decarbonize". Our Heat Batteries charge from intermittent renewables to provide high temperature, continuous heat for customers safely, reliably, at an unprecedented 98% efficiency - and at a cost point that is lower than any other method.

We are looking for an experienced Design Manager with Rondo. I this critical role, you will spearhead the design and engineering efforts of complex infrastructure projects, leading a cross functional team of talented designers to deliver innovative and practical solutions. You will play a pivotal role in aligning design strategies with project requirements across many engineering disciplines, including civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and process. Through effective communication and technical expertise, you will ensure seamless coordination between engineering, procurement, and construction teams while maintaining quality and adherence to project timelines.

What You Will Do (key responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to):

  • Lead and manage a multidisciplinary design team comprised of architects, engineers, and drafters, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical expertise to achieve project objectives
  • Develop design strategies that integrate seamlessly into the broader EPC project framework
  • Collaborate closely across engineering and procurement departments to align design concepts with project specifications, cost constraints, and client requirements
  • Oversee the design phase of projects, ensuring designs are compliant with industry standards, regulations, and client expectations
  • Maintain high standards of design quality, reviewing and approving design concepts, drawings, and specifications
  • Integrate innovative technologies and sustainable practices into the design process to enhance project efficiency and performance
  • Allocate design resources effectively, balancing workload distribution and optimizing resource utilization
  • Highlight gaps and constraints across various stages of projects
  • Identify opportunities for skill development and training to enhance the capabilities of the design team
  • Identify and mitigate design-related risks, anticipating potential challenges and providing proactive solutions to ensure project success and client satisfaction
  • Coordinate key project schedule requirements with Procurement and Construction partners for the overall success of the project

What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Design, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. Master's degree or equivalent experience is advantageous
  • 10 years of progressive experience in multi-disciplinary design management within an EPC firm or related industry
  • PE or RA License preferred
  • Proficiency in relevant design software and tools (AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, etc.) and a demonstrable portfolio showcasing successful design projects within the EPC domain
  • Strong understanding of engineering disciplines, construction methodologies, and project management practices
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
  • Proven track record of managing complex design / engineering projects from conception to completion

The preferred locations for this role are Alameda CA, Houston TX, or Kansas City KA, though other locations will be considered. This role requires up to 20% travel. The estimated annual salary range for this role is $140,000 to $190,000 and it would be eligible for Rondo's excellent benefits listed above plus additional compensation in the form of equity. Please note that some pay bands may have wide ranges of compensation to accommodate candidates' diverse sets of skill levels and experience and different geographic locations.
