Role Summary The Launch Quality, Sr. Engineer, will be a cross-functional role that ties together Product Development, Engineering and Operations organizations to bring new vehicles to life. In this role, you will partner with Design, Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, Production Control, Manufacturing & Process Engineering team to ensure all branches of quality functions are ready during pre-production stages (Design Validation) to deliver high-quality vehicles to our customers. Responsibilities Oversee build quality of Electric Drive Unit and related Powertrain Electrification products Determine, track, and deliver key KPI’s to achieve quality targets and goals Work with engineering, manufacturing, and the supply base to ensure requirements flow through Develop and maintain prototype build quality process and data collection for SPC development Participate in product launch initiatives to meet timing and quality milestones Ensure product and process designs deliver high levels of capability using DFMEA, PFMEA and other tools Drive Prediction, Prevention, and Protection of quality issues and risk mitigation solutions Collaborate with other members of the engineering staff to support both project and internal R&D efforts Qualifications BS/MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering Minimum of 5 years engineering and/or quality experience including: Design and manufacturing of electric motors, power electronics and related electrical test processes Working knowledge of electric drive units, gearbox/transmission designs and associated components like gears, seals, castings etc. Knowledge of functionality and GD&T for system level and component level of drive unit Knowledge of assembly processes and testing for drive unit like leak testing, electrical testing, NVH etc. Basic CAD knowledge, including ability to review designs within CATIA Strong statistical and problem-solving capability, Six Sigma Green or Black Belt Preferred 1-2 years’ experience with New Product and Process Development Knowledge of AIAG, APQP and related tools Familiarity with CMM, laser scan, CT scan and other gaging devices Demonstrated quality improvements through use of structured problem solving Experience working in a cross functional environment Ability to collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers Comfortable working in a manufacturing / production environment Equal Opportunity Rivian is an equal opportunity employer and complies with all applicable federal, state, and local fair employment practices laws.
