Position Summary

As Rewiring America undergoes rapid expansion, we seek an entrepreneurial Head of Policy to join our Leadership Team. Reporting to the Head of Market Transformation, you will shape and execute our federal, state and local policy and regulatory strategies, integrating our policy strategy into the broader organizational strategy, and collaborating with partner organizations nationwide. Your role will involve creating awareness, cultivating community support, and integrating market insights with innovative, equity-driven policy solutions. You'll lead the development of materials for lawmakers, advocates, the public, and the media to drive our campaigns and enhance Rewiring America’s position as a prominent national policy leader.

What You'll Do

With a proven track record in policy innovation, your role is to build strong coalitions and achieve critical policy objectives. You excel in crafting creative policies, navigating complex political landscapes, and swiftly enacting change that truly matters.

As the Head of Policy, you will:

  • Develop and drive our federal, state and local policy agenda, focusing on equity, system transformation, opportunities to scale and deliver measurable impact to support our approach to electrification.
  • Defend and ensure smooth implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to further our mission.
  • Build enthusiasm for our policy agenda and approach in the donor community.
  • Identify and prioritize policy opportunities, shaping our positions and messaging.
  • Build robust relationships with policymakers and diverse stakeholders by expanding our network to advocate and advance our objectives.
  • Draft influential materials to support our campaigns and engage with policy influencers and climate, energy and housing advocates.
  • Represent Rewiring America in public forums, meetings, and events to promote our electrification goals and approach.
  • Convene coalition partners and strengthen strategic coordination and message cohesion.
  • Identify new partners to accelerate action and leverage resources.
  • In partnership with the Policy Team and the Leadership Team, establish OKRs to measure the impact and effectiveness of our policy efforts and regularly report on the progress to internal and external stakeholders.

Organizational and Team Management:

  • Contribute to Rewiring America's overall strategy, financial health, and inclusive culture as a Leadership Team member.
  • Manage the policy budget efficiently, supporting fundraising efforts.
  • Manage, support, and grow Rewiring America’s stellar policy team by establishing objectives, providing organizational context, communicating clear expectations, providing feedback, and fostering professional development.
  • Develop tracking systems and produce reports to inform strategies and enhance results.
  • Provide routine reports to advisors and committees, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.

Core Qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to Rewiring America's mission.
  • Over 10 years of progressive policy experience.
  • Expertise in drafting climate, energy, housing, environmental justice, or related policies, leading campaigns, and building successful teams.
  • Exceptional leadership skills, including experience in organizational leadership and a track record of relationship-building with diverse stakeholders.
  • Outstanding communication skills, translating complex policy nuance into accessible and actionable narratives.
  • Deep understanding of how to work with market, energy, climate, and consumer data to advance policy goals.
  • Ability to manage a growing team and set high-performance expectations.
  • Highly collaborative work style, operating as a thought partner to the Leadership Team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in policy, law, or climate science.
  • Experience in building electrification, renewable energy, utility regulation, infrastructure, housing, or financing.
  • Recent legislative or executive branch leadership experience.
  • Entrepreneurial drive with startup experience.

Benefits

The salary range for this position is $175,000 - $225,000, commensurate with experience. The comprehensive benefits package includes 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their families. Employees can enroll in the 401k retirement plan with a 3% automatic contribution and up to a 3% employer match. Additional benefits include pre-tax transportation benefits, vacation time, health leave, casual leave, volunteer leave, paid holidays, paid family and medical leave, and access to professional development resources.
