Job Description

About Redwood Materials

Redwood Materials was founded in 2017 to create a circular supply chain for electric vehicles and clean energy products, making them more sustainable and driving down the cost for batteries. We’re doing this by developing and deploying new technologies to increase the scope and scale of recycled and sustainable materials in the global battery supply chain.

Senior Power Electronics Engineer

You will work on a team of power, control, and test engineers to develop entirely new products and systems. You will be responsible for designing power converters (or systems of power converters), ranging from many to tens of kilowatts to many tens of megawatts. You will be expected to own project-level deliverables such as qualified hardware, reports, and compliance certificates. This will include designing power converters up from the component level and working with off-the-shelf products for industrial environments. You will be working in a startup culture.

If necessary, the job level will be adjusted based on the applicant's experience and responsibilities.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Deliver multiple power converters to internal/external customers, covering from 2KW to 20MW as a team.
  • Work on AC/DC and DC/DC power conversion systems as a team.
  • Design the control loop of the AC/DC and DC/DC power conversion systems.
  • Design the analog/digital/mixed-signal circuits on PCBA for sensing and control.
  • Design magnetic components like inductors, transformers, and EMI filters.
  • Lead the development of control and power conversion PCBAs.
  • Work with the mechanical team to design the thermal management system.
  • Lead the validation of the electro-mechanical power conversion system.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Minimum Ph.D. degree or 3 years after an MS degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Excellent skill in circuit simulation software like SPICE, LTSpice, or PSIM.
  • Excellent in system analysis software like MATLAB, Python, or Mathcad.
  • Excellent debugging skills in the power conversion circuit.
  • Familiar with higher than 100V DC conversion systems (Resonant DC system is a plus).
  • Familiar with higher than 100V AC systems (PFC system is a plus).
  • Excellent laboratory proficiency with an oscilloscope, voltage/current probes, power analyzer, and LCR meter.
  • Familiarity with writing control loops in C/C++ in the bare-metal or RTOS.

The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
