Position Description

Pure Watercraft is creating revolutionary electric marine propulsion to ensure a future where boating will be clean, quiet, and powerful. With your help as a Cost Reduction Mechanical Engineer, we will provide the highest performance and most reliable electric boating system available on the market.

We are looking for a Cost Reduction Mechanical Engineer who can take a lead role in reducing cost that will help us achieve our goal of revolutionizing the way people use their boats. The cost reduction ME will allow the rapid cost reduction of many high-value components that require DFM, manufacturing process change, supplier change, or other technical debt to be completed. As a Cost Reduction Engineer, you will help us make informed decisions about the budget and timeline of our projects. You will work with our different functions to provide valuable insight regarding project costs, potential risks and resource allocation.

  • Work schedule: Pacific Standard Time (PST)

What You'll Mostly Do

  • Complete all necessary Mechanical Engineering work required to enable low-cost quoting, supplied component manufacturing method change, and supplier change. This will include but not be limited to: Design engineering work to support the cost reductions, including DFM, DFMEA, CAD, drawing revisions, FEA validation, and DOE for validation testing.
  • Update technical specifications and requirements documents.
  • Relay design and documentation changes and improvements to Outboard Engineering and hold regular design reviews to discuss progress, the risks of changes made, and their proposed mitigations.
  • Help transition COTS (Commercial off the Shelf) components to the COTS part numbering system, agnostic of supplier, thereby helping supply chain competitively source common/commodity parts.

What We Look for First

  • Mechanical design engineering experience of 5+ years, or a clear demonstration of exceptional ability commensurate with that level of work experience.
  • Solidworks modeling Large assemblies Revision management and PDM Surfacing
  • Technical drawings, Castings Gears, and splines. Machined components, Interface Control Drawings, and Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 drafting standards at a minimum
  • Analysis Tolerance stack Finite element (linear static at a minimum)
  • Thorough understanding of GD&T and its practical applications.
  • DFMEA (Design Failure Modes Effects Analysis)
  • DOE (Design of Experiments)
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and presentation skills in English
