Job Description

Prolific Machines is on a mission to accelerate the transition to sustainable agriculture. We believe that we have the only solution to make cultured meat at a price that is competitive with factory farming. We are looking for mission-driven, skilled, and kind people to help create the alternative we need to transition to a more sustainable and healthy future.

Diversity: We value diverse people, perspectives, and knowledge. To this end, we aim to foster a sense of belonging that enables everyone to bring their whole, authentic self to work everyday. We are committed to growing a diverse and inclusive team that encompasses all types of people. We believe this can only be achieved by acknowledging the ancestral, historic, and current systemic and communal inequities.

The position:

The Research Associate will be a key member of our bioprocess development team working to scale-up and improve our cell production processes. Associates in this role will be responsible for a variety of tasks including preparation and execution of key experiments, validation of assays and methods, equipment preparation and process monitoring, media and buffer preparation, sampling and cell culture analysis, maintenance of accurate experimental records, and troubleshooting systems. There will be ample opportunity for growth within our expanding bioprocess development team. This role is especially suited to a candidate who enjoys executing routine processes with great eye for detail, while also thinking about how to continuously develop and improve existing processes.

Some things about you

  • Are a thoughtful, fun coworker who is deeply motivated by the company's mission and cares about contributing to company culture.
  • Enjoy making processes and systems more effective and efficient based on data.
  • Care deeply about the quality of work and data you deliver, have a strong eye for detail and are always looking for ways to understand, learn, and improve.
  • Enjoy hands-on cell-culture work.
  • Have strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Are comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Are able to accommodate a flexible schedule to support research needs.

What you need to succeed

  • An education in bioengineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, cell biology, molecular biology, or related engineering/life sciences field.
  • 5+ years of experience working in biotech or related fields.
  • At least 3 years of mammalian cell culture experience and aseptic technique - suspension culture experience is a major plus.
  • Excellent, in-depth knowledge of good laboratory practices, assay execution and safety.
  • At least 2 years experience with bioreactor setup, operation, cleaning, maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • The ability to occasionally lift loads up to 50lbs

This position description likely contains skills you already have as well as skills you would learn in the role. These skills are not requirements, so if you think you would do a great job at this role then you should apply regardless of whether you fit the above criteria.

Start Date: Within the next 2 months.

Compensation: $80,000-$100,000 (bi-weekly payments), significant stock options (subject to vesting), performance-based bonus, and free lunch and drinks every day.

Location: The San Francisco Bay Area (Emeryville)

Benefits: Outstanding Health, Vision & Dental Insurance (including full spouse coverage), at least one all-expense-paid team holiday per year, flexibility in schedule and unlimited vacation days. Free lunch every day!

Evaluation: In lieu of the traditional application process of a CV and cover letter, we would rather give you an opportunity to tell us about yourself on your own terms by answering the below three questions. However, we do ask that it is concise (e.g less than 200 words for written answers).
