We’re hiring a Head of Flex Markets to work alongside our friendly team of commercial, design and software development professionals that are at the forefront of transforming the energy sector.

Who we are looking for

We’re looking for a Head of Flex Markets to oversee our worldwide portfolio of flexibility markets operating on Piclo Flex. Key aspects of this role include ensuring client satisfaction, driving marketplace outcomes, coordinating across D/TSO markets and influencing the product functionality.

The successful candidate will be expected to be an entrepreneurially-minded industry veteran, with experience in delivering results and working across functions / business units. You will be passionate about the energy sector, and be excited to actively drive Piclo’s growth journey.

About you

Our ideal candidate meets many - but not necessarily all - of the below criteria:

  • 10+ years experience within energy sector, with a significant proportion of your time focused on flexibility markets and/or Distribution System Operator (DSOs)
  • Established track record of building and managing high performing international teams across Europe, North America and Asia Pacific
  • Adept at building internal relationships across multiple, diverse business lines and coordinating on joint activities
  • Excellent communicator who can be one of the public faces of Piclo to represent our Flex product, its value proposition and strategic direction
  • Can bring a pre-existing stakeholder network of D/TSO clients, utilities and partners (technology, consulting, etc.)
  • Able to support a consultative approach to business development and contribute to proposal development
  • Self-motivated and organised with ability to prioritise work and set actionable timelines while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Fluent in English, even if it’s not your first language.

Also desirable:

  • Experience in start-up / scale-up environments.
  • Motivated by Piclo’s mission to make our energy system smart, flexible and clean.
  • Naturally empathic and are always mindful of the humans who use and benefit from your work.

About the role

This role is critical to ensuring the quality of service to our customers as well as driving Piclo’s growth objectives. This role will report directly to the Chief Commercial Officer and will include the following duties::

Client portfolio management

  • Overall P&L accountability for in-flight and new D/TSO contracts, ensuring contract value is delivered or expanded where necessary
  • Coordinate regional flex market teams: UK&I, Europe, NA, APAC including line management responsibility for Regional Leads
  • Align and coordinate commercial team functions to deliver required outcomes in region, including marketing, policy, sales and key account management
  • Build relationships with senior client stakeholders and ensure the quality of Piclo’s service to address their needs
  • Build and maintain processes (such as a Key Account Management playbook) underpinned by best practices, and ensure execution across markets

Industry leadership & partnership

  • Responsibility for running in-market x-T/DSO coordination, insights and sector eminence. Representation of Piclo as a brand ambassador in external facing events
  • Collaborate closely with all product team functions, including the delivery team and coordination of product insights / change requests from in-market clients
  • Responsibility for managing portfolio of technology (e.g. DERMS/ADMS) and/or service partners in the T/DSO space

Strategy & growth

  • Outline a clear strategy for how we deliver our Piclo Flex markets and how best to support our international clients
  • Act as a leader within the Commercial department to ensure high productivity of our teams, reinforce our company culture as well as be a champion of our values
  • Actively contribute to commercial strategy and tactical execution as part of the leadership team

Who we are

Piclo’s mission is to decarbonise the grid. We develop software solutions that make our energy networks smarter, flexible and more sustainable. Our flagship product, Piclo Flex is the leading independent marketplace for energy flexibility services, enabling system operators (such as National Grid ESO, UKPN and a growing number internationally) to source energy flexibility from flexible service providers (e.g. electric vehicles) during times of high demand or low supply. As of 2022, Piclo Flex has 55,000 registered flexible assets and flexibility contracts awarded totalling £57.4m with 16.6 GW of flex capacity registered and 1.1 GW+ of flexible capacity procured.

Piclo currently provides flexibility services in six global markets: UK, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Lithuania and in the United States in New York State. Aside from its leading position in the UK, Piclo has a growing presence in Europe, North America and Australia.
