Job Description
Munich-based OroraTech is offering a student internship position in satellite operations for a motivated and eager-to-learn individual. As a Satellite Operations Intern, you will have the unique opportunity to contribute to our mission of developing a constellation of nano-satellites with thermal infrared cameras for automated wildfire detection, land surface temperature measurement and other applications. With the successful launches of our hosted payload missions, FOREST-1 and FOREST-2, we have achieved major milestones in 2025 with the launch of FOREST-3, our first fully in-house developed satellite, and OTC-P1, our first hosted payload constellation plane. We are now preparing for the launch of our second set of 8 satellites, OTC-P2, planned for the end of 2025.
As a Satellite Operations Intern, you will work on customized projects designed to help you gain experience in various aspects of satellite operations. These projects may include but are not limited to:
- Assist in implementing and overseeing the spacecraft's LEOP (Launch and Early Orbit Phase), ensuring a successful transition from launch to operational orbit.
- Collaborate on the development and maintenance of the satellite.
- Support the continuous monitoring and control of CubeSat operations to optimize Earth observation performance and data acquisition.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve any technical anomalies under guidance to minimize interruptions in mission operations.
- Analyze and process telemetry data with guidance from team members to ensure the health and safety of the satellite’s systems.
- Generate regular status reports on the spacecraft’s performance, mission progress, and notable events.
- Develop and configure utility tools such as data visualization dashboards, health monitoring watchers, task automation routines, helper scripts, etc., under the supervision of experienced engineers.
Your projects will be tailored to your skill level and interests, providing you with valuable hands-on experience in satellite operations and the opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking innovations.
- Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline
- Experience in space-related student associations with direct involvement in LEOP and commissioning phases is preferred
- Good understanding of orbital mechanics and space environment related risks
- Basic knowledge of satellite ground systems, tracking networks, and command & control protocols
- Ability to analyze, interpret and visualize time series data.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Python programming and a foundational knowledge of Linux, bash scripting, and version control using Git
- Familiarity with Docker, Orekit or skyfield, and system validation tests is a plus
- Exceptional problem-solving skills
- Fluent in English, with excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective teamwork and report documentation.
- You have the opportunity to become part of our firefighting mission from space and deliver the tools to better cope with natural disasters and mitigate climate change - could a job be any cooler?
- You will gain insights into the most exciting new technologies and business models.
- We value perfect espresso - you'll love our high-grade espresso machine. Additionally, free drinks and snacks are always available at the office.
- Attractive office with modern labs at "Neue Balan" near Ostbahnhof with its own pool (yes!) and access to the rooftop terrace.
- A responsible position with individual autonomy and design freedom.
- Flexible working time. Take care of your family? Late sleeper? Early riser? We can make all of that happen !
- Company events and get-togethers (Christmas, Summer party, Oktoberfest, etc.)
And always a great story to tell at parties :)
