Job Description

Overview

We’re looking for someone to join our growing yet close-knit Engineering team. If you’re someone who can immediately dive in to understand our promising new technology and bring top-notch creativity, problem-solving, analysis, and reporting abilities, we’d love to hear from you.

In the first year, you’ll build new stack testers, source components, design and execute tests, and have a huge impact on our prototypes. You’ll take ownership of these critical aspects while working with a highly-collaborative, hands-on team.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Finalize design and source the last 20-30% of components needed and coordinate building of two new stack testers (with technician/outsource help).
  • Fully understand how the Noon prototype works.
  • Change stacks independently.
  • Plan tests and operate both the stack testers and the first prototype.
  • Analyze data and present results to the team.
  • Maintain relationships with established stack suppliers.
  • Take lead on smaller related projects, like gas composition sensors.
  • Suggest new stack tests, plan them and execute on them.
  • Assess the need for more stack testers and coordinate builds.
  • Acquire and help build the stack tester in the Noon Demo.

Experience & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science.
  • For a Bachelor level applicant, 2+ years of experience as a Test Engineer or Electrochemical Engineer. Alternatively, a Master’s degree or PhD in Electrochemistry or any of the above engineering fields.
  • Ability to design complex tests.
  • Knowledge of electrochemistry, e.g. Li-ion batteries, flow batteries, fuel cells, electrolyzers.
  • Ability to build solid oxide cell testing hardware.
  • Hands-on experience with compression fittings, high temperature furnaces, MFCs, power supplies/loads, etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of the solid oxide cell (SOC) technology (SOFC and/or SOEC) is a plus, including theoretical understanding of relevant topics, e.g. thermodynamics, Nernst equation, etc, and experience with SOC stacks.
  • Experience analyzing SOC/battery/electrochemical data, such as current-voltage and EIS.
  • Experience with PI&Ds and Process Flow Diagrams.
  • Good interpersonal skills and experience handling sourcing of long-lead items and supplier relationships.
  • Solid project management skills.
  • Creative and adaptable problem-solving.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • A “Beginner’s Mind” - curious and excited to learn.
  • Clear communication and reporting.

About Us

Noon Energy’s vision is a fully-renewable future with energy storage inspired by nature. We’re on a mission to allow the world to run on renewables with low-cost compact long-duration energy storage. Our compact stationary battery uses the same chemistry that plants use in photosynthesis, eliminating the need for mining precious metals for energy storage. Noon Energy batteries deliver 200+ hours of storage capacity, enabling 5-6 ¢/kWh on-demand renewable electricity when paired with wind and solar. The Noon Energy technology is robust, safe, and the core electrochemical component of the technology is currently operating on Mars. Initially, we are developing products for the $1T stationary energy storage market with future applications in long-haul shipping and trucking.

“Our battery stores energy by splitting CO 2 , similar to how nature stores energy by photosynthesis. Storage in air-abundant molecules, rather than rare metals, is key to our fundamental advantages in cost, sustainability, and energy density.” - Chris Graves, CEO.

We are building a company rooted in our desire for everyone to have access to abundant low-cost energy. Our core values are woven into everything we do, from what we ask in interviews, how we run our meetings, and how we make the highest-level company decisions. We believe that alignment with our core ideology is essential for building a lasting company with massive positive impact on the world.
