Job Description

At Modern Meadow (MM) we are harnessing the power of design, biology and material science to produce high performing, sustainable, and scalable bio-based products. At the intersection of biotechnology and material science, we design solutions for the way we want the world to perform. We are pioneers of bio fabrication, building with biology. Because we have introduced a more effective, more responsible, and readily available supply, we are shifting demand away from extractive practices and toward a sustainable bioeconomy.

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Process Engineer to provide support for our Process Technology division. This person's responsibilities will include optimizing processes and progressively scaling the company’s processing technology from laboratory to production.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Drive projects in the business unit to unlock technology potential and lead process development activity by working with technical team, partners, consultants, and customers.
  • Works with product development to develop the process and product specifications.
  • Responsible for process optimization and setting up robust production processes.
  • Responsible for managing projects by maintaining good communication across all stakeholders, efficient resource management, optimal decision-making making, and employing good risk mitigation strategies
  • Provide engineering technical leadership for capital projects by providing PFDs, P&IDs, and equipment functional specifications for different unit operations involved
  • Working with finance and supply chain, drive continuing improvement actions to maintain Modern Meadow’s competitiveness.
  • Collaborate with business development team and other stakeholders to scout different opportunity spaces and feed new ideas and projects into the innovation pipeline
  • Develop new technology platforms or product concepts to offer unique solutions or address unmet needs in different application areas such as automotive, furniture, and performance sports.
  • Be a strong technical consultant for other projects as they move towards later stages of commercialization in innovation process

Experience, Skills & Knowledge:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in chemical engineering, material science, polymer chemistry and other relevant fields with 8+ years of relevant experience in material companies addressing key markets such as automotive, performance sport, and furniture.
  • Direct experience in optimizing and troubleshooting different production processes such as coatings, finishing and production of rolled or sheet goods
  • Experience in experimental design/DOE, statistical analysis, and process optimization with experience with sheet extrusion and other polymer processing methods.
  • Experience with different textile constructions, fiber chemistries, finishing chemistries and exposure to most sustainable practices in the industry to improve the LCA impacts of the products is required
  • Critical thinker, problem solver, innovator, eager to learn/question
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment without sacrificing accuracy and quality of work
  • Strong commitment to safety and provide safety leadership within the team
  • Organized and detail oriented, particularly regarding maintaining records and documentation
  • Strong team player and good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work on site at our Nutley NJ HQ
