About Mission Zero Technologies:

MZT is a hardware technology start-up pioneering a breakthrough Direct Air carbon Capture (DAC) technology that can scrub CO2 from the air using a fraction of the energy compared to incumbent technologies developed by the likes of Carbon Engineering and Climeworks. In the past three years, MZT has evolved its technology from concept to pilot plant scale, successfully raising over £8m from a mixture of private and government funding. MZT’s technology is a hybrid of approaches, combining efficient solution-phase capture of CO2 with a continuous and compact electrochemical separation technology.

Mission Zero and its work is guided by its principles of bold curiosity, problem solving acumen and hope for the future. We strive to realise a world where humanity has new tools to fight climate change, remove CO2 permanently from the atmosphere and produce everyday products such as concrete blocks or fuels from atmospheric carbon emissions. To do this we need to realise a decentralised Gt supply chain for CO2 sourced directly from the atmosphere.

The opportunity:

You have the opportunity to join MZT at a pivotal point in our company's history - our transition from an early-stage R&D startup into a product offering, revenue-generating company poised to rapidly scale our DAC technology across the world.

Working alongside the COO, the Head of People will provide vital leadership in shaping and delivering the organisation’s talent goals and business objectives in aspects of human resources (HR), recruiting, professional development, culture, and employee happiness.

You will be responsible for managing the day to day operations of the company, touching upon multiple disciplines such as HR, Internal Communications, Executive Management, and Business Operations. The ideal candidate will have a background of people operations experience in a startup or high-growth environment and a proven record of getting things done.

What you’ll be responsible for:

  • Shaping and implementing strategies and processes for talent acquisition, employment processing, compensation, health, and welfare benefits, training and development, records management, succession planning, employee relations and retention, and compliance,
  • Building collaborative cross-functional relationships with Finance, other teams, and hiring managers to ensure the successful onboarding and offboarding of new employees and contingent workers.
  • Crafting and spearheading company-wide performance management, feedback, and review processes, including training of staff and managers in using them.
  • Formulating personal and professional development incentives and structures tailored to various functions of the organisation.
  • Shaping the organisation’s medium- and long-term talent strategy via building graduate programmes, internships, career progression structures, and headcount planning systems.
  • Develop human resources solutions by collecting and analysing information; recommending courses of action.
  • Prepare executive and management reports by collecting, analysing, and summarising data and trends.
  • Improve manager and employee performance by identifying and clarifying problems; evaluating potential solutions; implementing selected solutions; coaching and counselling managers and employees.
  • Complete special projects by clarifying project objectives; setting timetables and schedules; conducting research; developing and organising information; fulfilling transactions.
  • Be part of the senior leadership team, work to develop and enable the company’s values and missions.

The Ideal Candidate will possess:

  • Experience with HRIS systems
  • Familiarity and experience with relevant UK legal requirements
  • Prior experience in a people operations/HR role in a high-growth organisation
  • Strong communication and leadership skills and the ability to influence and collaborate with a variety of stakeholders across the business.
  • Working knowledge of the critical components of a successful HR department including employment law, performance management, resolving conflict, having difficult conversations, employee engagement, training, maintaining employee files, and managing operational budgets
  • Prior experience in management positions and reporting to C-Suite at an SME or high-growth organisation

Also desirable:
