Job Description
Markforged (NYSE: MKFG) is leading the digital transformation of manufacturing by revolutionizing how engineers and manufacturers create and innovate. Our unique platform combines software, advanced materials (including cutting-edge metal and composite technologies), and industrial 3D printers to deliver strong, functional parts for various industries. We empower customers to overcome supply chain complexities, reduce costs, and accelerate innovation by producing high-performance tools, fixtures, prototypes, and end-use parts in-house.
As a Materials Engineer, you will be at the forefront of expanding the materials portfolio of Markforged systems and expanding the possibilities of what our customers can accomplish. You will continuously improve our existing fused filament fabrication (FFF) material set and bring new FFF materials through development into manufacturing and onto the market. To do this, you will use your materials knowledge to investigate structure-process-property relationships, develop processes for manufacturing readiness, and build new methods for testing next generation materials. You will utilize your know-hows to improve material performance and troubleshoot production issues. You will work directly with a team of material scientists, print engineers, manufacturing engineers and hardware engineers to contribute to a collaborative and engaging work environment.
What will you do?
● Lead materials process development for new polymer compounds and 3D printing filaments that meet demanding applications and manufacturing requirements
● Develop materials testing methods, utilizing them to create and maintain best in class composite materials.
● Use a data-driven approach and design of experiments to drive continuous process improvements.
● Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to implement process changes.
● Root cause materials issues and propose corrective actions
● Develop and sustain materials testing and processing know-hows and technologies for the company
● Clearly document, summarize, and present findings
● Champion safety in the lab and the production environment.
What you have?
● A Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Plastics Engineering or related field.
● Strong practical and theoretical knowledge of polymers, polymer composites, and polymer processing.
● Hands-on experience with polymer testing using systems such as TGA, DSC, DMA and FTIR to root cause and solve materials challenges.
● Experience working in a process and/or product development environment where building test methods and experiment plans is routinely required
● Deep sense of ownership with attention to detail
● Strong documentation and communication skills.
● Passionate and creative problem solver with a can-do attitude.
Salary Range
The pay range for this role is expected to be between $66,725 - $78,500.
