As a Thermo-Fluids Engineer in the Advanced Powertrain Technologies team, you will analyze thermal and lubrication design of Drive Units. Our ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude, demonstrates excellence in their respective fields, and possesses the ability to adapt quickly within a fast-paced environment. They are always striving to push the envelope of what’s possible.
The Role:
- Optimize fluid and thermal design across different devices at the component and system level, collaborating across multiple departments and specialties as part of our multi-physics team.
- Create world-class solutions considering thermal and lubrication performance, packaging and manufacturability.
- Investigate cutting-edge cooling and lubrication technology and research state-of-the art solutions that could be applied in a new context.
- Collaborate across all company teams, placing priority on the greater benefit of the vehicle above any one individual system.
- Work on projects that consist of tasks including but not limited to - CAD modeling, geometry cleanup, meshing and CFD simulations of Drive Unit designs. The calculations may contain a sub-component part, or the full Drive Unit design.
- Work on projects that include experimental thermo-fluids analysis, which contain tasks related to test setup, calibration, data collection, post-processing, etc.
- Build analytical models related to heat transfer and fluid flow mechanisms around motor thermals and the related components.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of and passionate interest in thermal analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics.
- Geometry cleanup skills in a CAD package (SpaceClaim, DesignModeler or Discovery preferred).
- Experience with CFD tools (ANSYS Fluent preferred) for meshing, solving, and post processing.
- Demonstrable track record of technical excellence in CFD or related field.
- Strong experience in scripting and automation of repetitive tasks.
- Excellent communication skills with people of varying technical ability in your field
- A strong desire to create the very best product, working as an integral part of a very capable team.
- The capability to design and lead experiments to validate your analysis and ideas.
- Strong documentation practices
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred:
- Relevant experience outside of college e. at home or work.
- Knowledge of and passionate interest in tribology
- Additional fields of experience (electromagnets, structural statics/dynamics, material science).
- Experience in: Matlab, Simulink, Catia/3DExperience, OptiSLang, or other engineering software.
- Practical hands-on experience with validation and experimental measurements including design of experiments.
- Experience with multi-objective optimization and process automation software.
- Experience with thermal nodal network analyses
- Experience of fluid dynamics analysis using SPH CFD tools
Education:
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related field or equivalent work experience.
Salary Range: The compensation range for this position is specific to the locations listed below and is the range Lucid reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including job-related knowledge; skillset; experience, education and training; certifications; and other relevant business and organizational factors.
Additional Compensation and Benefits: Lucid offers a wide range of competitive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, vacation, and 401k. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in Lucid’s equity program and/or a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing such programs. (Cash or equity incentive awards, if any, will depend on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and company performance.)
