POSITION OVERVIEW

The analytical chemist will operate as part of the Quality Control and Analytical Laboratory in the Quality and Regulatory Affairs Department. In this role, the analytical chemist will be responsible for the oversight of analytical instrument operations and complex chemical analysis in support of commercial product quality control, ingredient evaluations, and research and development efforts. The candidate will have technical knowledge and practical skills to proficiently operate, maintain and troubleshoot multiple instrument platforms. The candidate is expected to execute analytical development with substantial independence and have the ability to develop modified and new methods. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in the food and beverage industry.

The position requires the candidate to productively interact with cross-functional teams. He/She/They must be skilled in communicating and collaborating with product development team members with diverse backgrounds, skill sets, and levels of expertise. The candidate will maintain a productive and inclusive collaborative laboratory environment consistent with Kate Farms expectations.

Quality Control is an integral part of the Quality and Regulatory Affairs team which ensures a full slate of safe, wholesome, and clinically effective food products in their development and finished phase meet set standards of quality, uniformity, and performance. To further our advancement of plant-based nourishment, Kate Farms has established the Innovation and Quality Center in Goleta where a Pilot Plant along with a state-of-the-art laboratory are situated to allow for evaluation of R&D scale productions, Product Development, Quality Control, and full scale analytical and functional testing purposes. The analytical chemist will be immersed in game-changing food technology and support advanced testing activities.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES

· Perform various testing of finished products and raw materials using analytical instrumentation and validated analytical methods for food analysis.

· Proficient in operation of, method development and validation of HPLC and ICP-MS.

· Troubleshoot analytical and instrumentation issues; interact with third-party laboratories and/or instrument manufacturers to communicate issues and develop solutions in a timely manner.

· Oversee routine calibration and maintenance activities of analytical instruments and ensure they are scheduled and completed within the due date.

· Author documents including SOPs, equipment/instrument qualification protocols and validation protocols and reports.

· Stay current on analytical method (FDA, AOAC, USP, etc.) trends and scientific literature and make recommendations for improved capabilities.

· Use Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) software for managing analytical data.

· Manage analytical supply inventory including consumables and gases.

· Handle and dispose of hazardous materials according to local, state, and federal regulations.

· Use scientific approach and organization skills in problem-solving.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

· Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline and 4 to 5 years of full-time analytical chemistry experience in an analytical laboratory.

· Proficient in HPLC and ICPMS operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

· Must have operating knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

. Must have experience with laboratory standards, sample preparation methods, techniques, protocols, safety measures, and the operation of chemical laboratory instrumentation.

· Meticulous attention to detail and diligence in record keeping.

· Skilled documentation of experimental plans, analyzing data and generating technical documents.

· Ability to operate autonomously and collaboratively.

· Ability to work with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment.

· Ability to learn and follow written procedures and protocols.

· Be flexible and embrace change with a growing and evolving company.

· Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills for working across departments and teams.

· Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and some weekends.

· Good written and oral communication skills in the English language.

If the position applied to is not located in Colorado, NYC, or California, the following information may not apply. Salary Minimum : $ 83,000 Salary Maximum $110,000 . The base salary range above represents the low and high end of the Kate Farms salary range for this position. This range will vary and may be above or below the range based. various factors including but not limited to location, experience, internal pay alignment, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Kate Farms’ total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and short- and long- term incentives.
