Kaluza wants to power a world where net-zero is within everyone’s reach, by building the platform that will accelerate a sustainable, affordable and resilient energy transition. It’s a huge challenge, but often the toughest problems are the most rewarding to solve. Since launching in 2019, Kaluza’s technology has been empowering some of the biggest energy suppliers to better serve millions of customers. From revolutionising billing to smart electric vehicle charging, our real-time cloud platforms transform supplier operations, reducing cost to serve and boosting engagement. And most importantly, they enable suppliers' customers to drive decarbonisation with smart, low carbon technologies.
Where in the world of Kaluza will I be working? You'll be joining the Kaluza Technology community. We’re a large team of both data-led and product focused Software and Production Engineers, pushing the boundaries of technology and working at an extraordinary scale. As a collective we strive for engineering greatness and by ensuring best practices across the board of the community. More specifically, you’ll be working on the Kaluza’s Energy Retail platform. This is a single instance, SaaS technology platform that aims to revolutionise the operating platforms for energy retailers globally. This platform has been built with scale and technical quality in mind and is the foundation for decarbonisation efforts by Kaluza’s customers. We’re looking to transform to a multi-tenant, international ready model to help the business take on new challenges and external customers.
What will I be doing? You will be joining as a Software Engineer within the Accounts & Metering area, specifically the Tariffs & Pricing domain, an integral part of the Kaluza Energy Retail platform. We provide retailers the ability to offer and maintain innovative and compliant tariffs and propositions to their customers to allow them to focus on their differentiators in a crowded market. We are responsible for setting the rules to ensure that the right tariffs are offered to the right customers as well as calculating the customer's estimated annual cost, based on tariff rates and estimated annual consumption. This allows us to provide cost projections that can be used by Statements, and other teams, to provide customers with details about cheaper tariffs available, so customers can make sure they have the information they need to choose the best tariff for them. We believe our team members should have the possibility to be involved in all aspects of our delivery. From the outset, you will be involved in all team activities including development, design, support and testing to name a few. We do not expect you to have a wealth of knowledge in our domain as this is something you can build up over time with the help of our experienced engineering team. We use a diverse set of technologies to deliver our services. We don’t expect you to arrive with experience of all of them, but you can expect to learn about and get hands-on with many technologies, including Scala, Typescript, AWS, Terraform, Kafka and Datadog.
Is this the job for me? If you feel you can demonstrate knowledge & experience of some of the following then we’d love to hear from you! You’re a hands-on engineer with expertise in at least one programming language - we hire based on engineering skill rather than a specific language, so don’t worry if your experience does not match our stack You have knowledge of engineering best practices and continuous delivery You are passionate about the customer’s experience and building quality software You love working in teams and collaboratively building features that impact customers You are motivated by owning products, from inception to continuous improvement You have a bias to action and a ‘Can do’ approach to problem solving in the face of uncertainty You seek learning opportunities to deepen your expertise or broaden your knowledge Experience of developing backend applications in Typescript/Scala is a plus Experience with event-driven architectures is a plus Experience with front-end is a plus, with regards to the tariffs self-serve UI that we support
