Company Overview

Kairos Power is a new nuclear energy technology and engineering company whose mission is to enable the world’s transition to clean energy, with the ultimate goal to dramatically improve people’s quality of life while protecting the environment. This goal will be accomplished through the commercialization of the fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (FHR) that can be deployed with robust safety, affordable costs, and flexible operation to accommodate the expansion of variable renewables.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the design, development and production of annular nuclear fuel, specifically fuel kernels for Karos Powers’ fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor.
• Direct and execute on the development of the annular fuel program focused on supplier raw material development, design and development of advanced manufacturing processes, and development of automated technical solutions for commercial fuel production.
• Contribute to the design, development, and execution of annular nuclear fuel manufacturing programs which are required to ensure relevant code compliance and regulatory acceptance.
• Involved in process and equipment development.
• Responsible for the design, development, installation, and commissioning of the Kernel Development Laboratory (KDL), including establishing manufacturing processes, equipment, raw materials, and product specifications.
• Also accountable for the start-up and series production of fuel kernels.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Chemical Engineering or related field, plus two (2) years of post-baccalaureate experience in process engineering within a nuclear environment, specifically involving reactor design or fuel plant design.
• Experience must include: nuclear fuel manufacturing; nuclear criticality, engineering life cycle and analysis processes, nuclear reactor dynamics and heat transfer processes; and nuclear reactors design philosophies and solutions.
