Kairos Power is a new nuclear energy technology and engineering company whose mission is to enable the world’s transition to clean energy, with the ultimate goal to dramatically improve people’s quality of life while protecting the environment. This goal will be accomplished through the commercialization of the fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (FHR) that can be deployed with robust safety, affordable costs, and flexible operation to accommodate the expansion of variable renewables.

Job Summary

As a member of the Kairos Power Fuel Performance team, the candidate will be responsible for running TRISO fuel calculations with the fuel performance code KP-BISON and reporting results in a timely and professional manner. Familiarity with the fuel performance code BISON is required for this position. The candidate should also have an understanding of reactor and/or thermal systems as they will be assisting the fuel performance team with multi-discipline calculations.

Responsibilities

• Model fuel and simulate performance of KP-FHR TRISO fuel
• Document efforts in the form of technical reports, engineering calculations, or engineering studies
• Develop and execute of first of a kind methodology for KP-FHR systems
• Support V&V of fuel performance code, KP-BISON
• Establish common data transfer interfaces and automation as needed
• Participate in development and code improvement efforts commensurate with experience and ability
• Participate in multi-department discussion for planning and execution
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Current student pursuing MS, or PhD in Mechanical or Nuclear engineering, Physics, Material Science or equivalent.
• Knowledge of TRISO fuel and the BISON fuel performance code are required
• Engineering/scientific judgment and critical thinking with data analysis
• Familiarity with C++, Python or other scripting tools
• Proven team player with excellent verbal and written communication/presentation
• Ability to work with highly collaborative team
• Ability to proactively collect, manage and transfer knowledge
• Ability to seek different and novel ways to create efficiencies when working on problems, challenges and issues

• Wearing proper PPE, to include face mask, face shields, gloves, safety shoes

The salary range for this position is $30-32 for employees working onsite at our Alameda, CA headquarters. The range provided in this job posting represents the typical range or starting rate of candidates hired in California.
