Job Title: Battery Scientist Engineer

Location: Centennial, CO (onsite)

We are reinventing the way batteries are charged to unlock their untapped performance. To us, batteries are more than just power sources. Our third-party validated charge-control solution improves battery performance metrics, such as charge speed and cycle life, by 2x to 4x, no matter the size or complexity of the product.

Role Summary:

In this role, the electrochemistry researcher will be a key member of the analytics team in multiple capacities. Design of cycling experiments and analysis of electrochemistry data, progresses customer projects and improves Iontra’s technology, while analysis of material characterization data improves the overall understanding of Li-ion batteries and how Iontra improves their charging. This is a position with plenty of opportunities for growth, creativity, and input in the companies’ analytical methodology and equipment. This is a full-time role located in our Centennial, CO office.

Salary Range: $90k - $110k (salary is based on education, experience, skillset, and market value).

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Design battery cycling experiments using formal DoE methodology for continuous optimization and repeatability to meet internal and customer requirements
  • Independently operate commercial battery cycling equipment and proprietary custom built battery cyclers
  • Perform potentiostat-based analysis of batteries and cell materials, including EIS, incremental capacity analysis, and other electrochemical performance and analysis measurement
  • Collect and analyze data from material characterization equipment including XRD, SEM, optical microscopy, and more
  • Work with the R&D and analytics teams to develop and continuously improve Iontra’s lithium-ion cell technology
  • Support efforts to expand analytical material and electrochemical characterization techniques
  • Support technical writing and presentation efforts for customer reports and meetings
  • Interact with customers in meetings

You’ll Need These Qualifications :

  • PhD in a hard science field
  • Masters in a hard science field with 2+ years of non-academic experience
  • 4 years of research experience is required
  • 3 years of electrochemical and materials characterization is required
  • 2 years of rechargeable battery experience is required
  • In lieu of degree, additional years of experience may suffice
  • Demonstrable competence with battery testing methods, equipment, and protocols
  • Act as a technical expert about rechargeable batteries
  • Must be comfortable independently conducting various types of EIS experiments and interpreting results
  • Expertise applying design of experiments (DoE) concepts towards optimization and understanding underlying theory (in designing and in application)
  • Familiarity with sample preparation for structural characterization including glovebox operation, cell teardown, vis-cell apparatus, EDS, and XRD

Desired Qualifications:

  • 3 years of design and conduct independent “ad hoc” experiments
  • 1 year of formal DoE methodology
  • Experience with python
