Job Description

We are an impact-driven, remote-first, ClimateTech (CDR) startup headquartered in Germany and Brazil with the goal to reverse climate change and make tropical agriculture more regenerative, low-carbon and sustainable. We are working with Enhanced Rock Weathering in tropical agriculture, currently with a focus on Brazil. We do that to create a liveable planet for future generations and, in specific, to regenerate soils and ecosystems, grow nutritious food, and increase food security and sovereignty in the tropics. Our stakeholders and clients are from all over the world, and we are committed to diversity, equity and inclusion.Our vision is to remove gigatons (that's billions of tons) of CO2 from the atmosphere in a permanent, scalable and safe way.Our Mission is to enable farmers in the tropics to replace synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and limestone with (silicate) rock powder from local mines.

As InPlanet Jr Lab Technician, you will be a crucial member of our scientific team, supporting various laboratory functions to ensure the smooth operation of experiments, procedures to support smooth scientific research, and quality control. Your work will contribute to the development of novel methodologies in the field of enhanced rock weathering.

  • Equipment and Inventory Management: Maintenance of lab equipment and stock management of consumables
  • Development and following of robust protocols with the focus to quantify carbon removal from out Enhanced Rock Weathering projects in the field
  • Assist in enhanced rock weathering experiments, focusing initially on processing water samples for carbon dioxide removal quantification.
  • Prepare and run samples on Skalar FormacsHT total carbon analyzer, supporting end-to-end processing of samples (centrifugation, filtering, acidification, dilution, aliquoting, pH, EC, and alkalinity measurements).
  • Prepare sample collection vials for field and experimental collection, including cleaning and labeling bottles and syringes.
  • Support the wider science team with day-to-day tasks, including taking samples from onsite experiments (greenhouse, mesocosms, and columns).
  • Prior experience with working in a professional lab
  • Proficiency in using laboratory equipment like pipettes, pH meters, filters, etc.
  • Experience with preparing and managing large amounts of samples
  • Experience working with water analysis
  • Experiences with soil and vegetation samples is a plus
  • Ability to keep your environment organized and well structured
  • High precision and attention to detail
  • Intrinsic motivation for personal and professional improvement
  • Passion for sustainable agriculture, climate change mitigation
  • Positive, can-do mindset, hands-on.
  • Solid English is a plus
  • Proficiency in Portuguese is a must
