Job Purpose:

Hyliion is seeking an experienced Certification & Compliance Engineer to lead and execute product certification and emissions compliance of the Hyliion Karno Generator. In this role, you will be building the certification and compliance roadmap for Hyliion Karno Generator closely working with the regulatory agencies. You will be responsible for deriving regulatory requirements, driving new rulemaking by partnering with regulatory agencies and ensuring adherence of Hyliion products to applicable safety and compliance standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of Certification & Emissions Compliance regulatory requirements to ensure that Hyliion products are fully compliant.
  • Interpret and derive engineering design, installation, and testing requirements from applicable UL, NFPA and emissions standards for product compliance.
  • Partner with the design engineering team to ensure regulations and standards are met for all new and current components in accordance with applicable UL requirements.
  • Lead and communicate UL standards and applications for safety standards approval with suppliers.
  • Develop the test requirements and plan for hardware and software and ensure timely execution of the tests prior to submittal to a chosen NRTL for compliance and safety approval.
  • Coordinate and maintain third-party NRTL labs for UL compliance testing.
  • Lead the discussions with regulators at CARB and EPA and develop the path to emissions compliance and manufacturer certification for the Karno generator.
  • Manage and document running design changes to the product in the field per regulatory requirements.
  • Stay up to date with changes in industry standards, codes and regulations and drive internal audits to ensure product development is in line with regulatory and compliance standards.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Expertise in power generation systems standards and regulations, including UL2200, UL 1741, NFPA 70 to ensure our products meet stringent safety, performance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Expertise in UL standards, decomposition, and interpretation.
  • Expertise in EPA and CARB emissions standards and test methodologies for power generation application.
  • Understanding of Li-Ion Battery systems and associated safety requirements
  • Prior experience in full product UL certification programs.
  • Experience in requirement management and with requirements management software such as JAMA.

Education, Experience and Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, power systems or a related field
  • 10+ Years of Experience in relevant engineering roles
  • Experience leading compliance engineering as applied to power generation systems.
  • Experience leading technical projects including managing schedules and setting key project tasks / milestones.
