Job Description
Are you ready to influence regulatory change in states across Australia to allow dairy and beef farmers to access the most incredible technology for their farms? This is not your usual role. We’re looking for an exceptional strategist and changemaker. You’ve successfully influenced change in a governmental strategic capacity in Australia before. However, you have unfinished business. Maybe you’ve been waiting for a company that matches your ambition, or a product that’s transforming an industry. Well, timing is everything.
A bout Halter
Halter is one of the world’s fastest growing agritech companies, and the most transformative technology available to dairy and beef farmers. Halter is the fastest growing company in New Zealand (topping the Deloitte Fast50 index in 2024). Founded in 2016, Halter is a high-growth scale up, backed by tier one venture capital (VC) firms, including Blackbird, the largest VC in Australia. Halter has over 280,000 cows on farms throughout NZ, AUS and the US, with ~200 staff and offices in each of these markets. With Halter’s collars on cows and app, farmers virtually fence and guide their cattle through their mobile phone, as well as monitor cattle health, fertility and location. Our customers run more productive and sustainable farms and their animals are healthier with Halter.
About the role
In Australia, virtual fencing is regulated by individual states’ animal welfare legislation. Currently, some states have legislation that does not permit farmers to use high-quality virtual fencing technology - their legislation was set years before Halter existed. There is a groundswell of demand from farmers in these states to get Halter. You will work closely with state and federal governments and industry groups to influence regulatory change to permit virtual fencing in these states. You will educate around how virtual fencing can align with government priorities around productivity, animal welfare, agricultural resilience and environmental sustainability. You will partner very closely with two premier government advisory consultancy teams on our strategy and delivery. This is a rare chance to deliver meaningful change for the benefit of an industry. This role has a high degree of autonomy. You’ll report to the VP of Strategic Relations, helping to unlock Halter in Australia.
Location
Based in Melbourne with regular travel around Victoria, to NSW and South Australia. Occasional travel to Western Australia, to customer farms in Tasmania & Queensland and to Halter’s HQ in Auckland, NZ.
