Job Description

About Glimpse:

The last decade has been incredibly exciting for electric mobility. However, the electrification of the transportation industry has scaled while relying on an insufficient set of quality control tools. This has led to uncomfortably high rates of battery pack failure and multi-billion-dollar safety recalls. In our view, every headline of electric vehicles and e-bikes catching fire is a major impediment towards an all-electric future.

Founded in 2023 by ex-Tesla and Toyota employees, Glimpse is enabling battery quality at scale to support a safe and rapid transition to an electrified world. Visit glimp.se to learn more.

The Role:

We are seeking a battery testing & analytics intern to perform a combination of battery electrochemical tests and data analytics. Glimpse has developed a high-resolution X-ray Computed Tomography (CT) scanning solution for the battery industry. In your role, you will build, perform, and analyze the results of experimental test plans to study and quantify correlations between cell electrochemical properties and internal geometrical features (obtained via CT). These studies will help further showcase the role X-ray CT scanning can play for battery quality evaluation. The work from this internship will result in publications, making it an ideal fit for a late-stage PhD student.

Responsibilities:

  • Design of Experiments: Build test plans incorporating electrochemical and CT scanning in collaboration with Glimpse’s CTO.
  • Data analysis: Analyze the results of those test plans and study how electrochemical metrics correlate with internal cell mechanical features. You will work closely with Glimpse’s Founding Image Processing Engineer.
  • Communication: Prepare your results for publications, presentations, and marketing material

Location

We’re headquartered in Greentown Labs in Somerville, MA. As an early-stage startup working on hardware and software, we have a strong preference for being in the office more often than not.

Our culture and values

A working draft of our culture and values aspirations can be found here.

Requirements

  • Experience with designing and running cell electrochemical testing plans
  • Proficiency in data analysis using Python.
  • Proficiency with standard software engineering tools (e.g. version control).
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Eagerness to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • [Nice-to-have] Strong track record of publications in battery data analysis.

Interview process

  1. Take home test (1 hour)
  2. Behavioral + technical video call (1 hour)
  3. One reference check

Benefits

  • Competitive stipend and flexible work arrangements.
  • Hands-on experience with state-of-the-art technology in the battery and climate tech industry.
  • Mentorship from industry experts and opportunities for professional growth.
  • A vibrant, inclusive, and supportive work culture.
