ROLE

Our team seeks a mission-driven Material Lead to lead Gencores’ research and development effort and support the development of Gencores’ first product. This role interfaces directly with the CEO and constitutes a fast-career progression opportunity at the company, it intends to propel the candidate towards a director position within 12 to 18 months. Joining us, you will be part of a rapidly growing, interdisciplinary team of 12 outstanding scientists and engineers working closely together to release our new composite metamaterials on the wind turbine and automotive markets.

Your essential responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of 4+ outstanding material scientists and engineers and key consultants to stabilize Gencores’ material chemistry and qualify Gencores’ first material product for its target market.
  • Own a critical portion of technical developments while keeping team developments on track, balancing speed, and scientific rigor within budget implementing cost control initiatives
  • Interface with suppliers to scale the production of our raw chemicals
  • Grow Gencores’ R&D team to 6-8 scientists & engineers in a 12 months’ timeline while maintaining team culture and agility implementing, stage-specific, lean processes.
  • Contribute to the establishment of Gencores’ breakthrough material and process IP
  • Establish OKRs, timelines and budgets with the CEO and the senior scientific team
  • Develop, write, and monitor million-dollar grants and budgets

Your experience or skills:

  • Passionate about sustainable chemistry and multi-scale material and systems design
  • Able to lead and manage high-performance teams with empathy, efficiently. Including implementing agile, lean management processes compatible with the evolving stage of the company.
  • Demonstrated track record developing materials from ideas to qualified products
  • Able to interface efficiently with multi-disciplinary engineering teams
  • Capacity to form and develop strong industry and academic partnerships
  • Represent the company in public and fundraising events

Our preferred qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in chemistry, polymer chemistry, organic chemistry, polymer science or material science and engineering or equivalent
  • 5 + years of industry experience with a proven track record for developing and commercializing material products.
  • Experience with leading high-performance teams and hiring exceptional talents.
  • Experience in scaling up material processing and production from lab to pilot scale, or higher.
