Job Description
Are you ready to rise to the challenge of climate change with the team that will deliver? Form Energy is a U.S. technology and manufacturing company that is developing and commercializing pioneering energy storage technologies to enable the electric grid to run on 100% renewable energy, every day of the year.
Supported by leading investors such as Breakthrough Energy Ventures, ArcelorMittal, TPG Rise, MIT’s The Engine, and others, we share a common belief that low-cost, multi-day energy storage is the key to enable tomorrow’s zero carbon electric grid. Driven by our core values of humanity, excellence, and creativity, we are deeply motivated and inspired to create a better world. We need talented, hardworking individuals who share our goal of tackling the challenge of climate change. Do you want to work with us today to build a better tomorrow?
Role Description
The Cell Engineering team within the Technology group at Form is multidisciplinary and focused on delivering qualified battery cell designs that meet operational performance targets, at cost and with high reliability, from controlled processes on high-volume manufacturing lines for Form Energy's utility-scale multi-day energy storage system.
We're hiring two hands-on Senior Mechanical Engineers to join the Cell Interfaces Team within Cell Engineering. In these roles, you will play a key part in helping us develop the mechanical and electrical interfaces between the Cell and System. These roles are responsible for the design of components and assemblies from concept to production, including engineering analysis, verification testing, and supporting manufacturing process development. Our ideal team members exhibit an ability to creatively solve mechanical design challenges in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment and should have at least one of the following core skills and experiences: fluid product development experience from concept to production, experience with mechanical assembly and tight-tolerance design of large components, or high-volume production of electromechanical products.
What you'll do:
- Lead the design of several critical cell components
- Develop functional requirements in close collaboration with members of the Cell Engineering and Systems Engineering teams
- Validate designs through a combination of analysis (e.g. FEA) and hands-on testing
- Analyze component and assembly tolerances, and develop cost/performance/reliability trades
- Collaborate with the Test and Reliability teams to deliver designs that meet cost, performance, and reliability targets
- Work with manufacturing engineers and technical operations to transition designs from the prototype stage to high-volume production
What you'll bring:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Bachelor's with 4+ years, or Master's with industry experience in mechanical design and proficiency in CAD
- Demonstrated experience with the design and verification testing of electromechanical systems or fluid systems
- Direct experience with high-volume manufacturing, fabrication, and prototyping techniques; experience with tight-tolerance, multi-material component design for harsh environments
- Excellent communicator across a range of engineering and business functions
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment
