Role Description:

Form Energy is hiring a senior electrical engineer to join our Systems Engineering, BMS Electronics team in our Berkeley, CA facility. This role will contribute to developing our battery module electronics and control systems for our energy storage system.

This new position is part of a growing team. It will ideally suit someone with expertise in 2D schematics, engineering documentation, and 3D CAD modeling for PCB design and layout, component selection, functional safety, and design validation testing for high-voltage electronics. Comfortable diving deep into technical challenges, a willingness to roll up one's sleeves and be hands-on prototyping, working with compliance standards, taking a product into high-volume manufacturing ramp, conducting root cause failure analysis, and working collaboratively with cross-functional teams is critical.

If this sounds like the perfect opportunity for you, apply today! It's an exciting opportunity to contribute to a sustainable future by scaling our multi-day energy storage system. Relocation assistance is available.

What you'll do:

  • Collaborate with software and hardware engineers to develop a battery management system (BMS) that coordinates functionality and safety responses throughout the system
  • Ownership of schematic capture, layout design, and release for various PCBAs
  • Participate in sensor selection and connector interface definition
  • Perform detailed engineering analysis such as circuit power draw, voltage protection, over-current protection, thermal load, cycle life, and component level FMEAs
  • Incorporate EMC regulatory requirements into design approaches
  • Develop and support the execution of test plans to validate electronics and control systems for lab bring-up and field environments
  • Engage with battery module and system design engineers to build Form’s first-generation multi-day storage product
  • Support the new product introduction and manufacturing scale-up activities, including quality inspection requirements, root cause failure analysis, and test equipment development

What you'll bring:

  • Degree in electronics or electrical engineering or related field, and 3 to 7 years of industry experience in product development
  • Background in electronics development, fabrication, and assembly processes, and good analytical problem-solving skills
  • Experience using and debugging industrial controls and serial communication protocols
  • Experience with EMC/EMI sensitive design and analysis
  • Foundational knowledge of embedded systems, high voltage isolation, and power conversion switching circuit designs
  • Highly desired - prior energy storage, battery systems, or renewable energy industry experience
