Job Description

Are you ready to rise to the challenge of climate change with the team that will deliver? Form Energy is a U.S. technology and manufacturing company that is developing and commercializing pioneering energy storage technologies to enable the electric grid to run on 100% renewable energy, every day of the year.

Supported by leading investors such as Breakthrough Energy Ventures, ArcelorMittal, TPG Rise, MIT’s The Engine, and others, we share a common belief that low-cost, multi-day energy storage is the key to enable tomorrow’s zero carbon electric grid. Driven by our core values of humanity, excellence, and creativity, we are deeply motivated and inspired to create a better world. We need talented, hardworking individuals who share our goal of tackling the challenge of climate change. Do you want to work with us today to build a better tomorrow?

Role Description

Form Energy is seeking a Mechanical Engineer I to design the mechanical components comprising the support systems in Form Energy’s long-duration energy storage system. This role will focus on converting conceptual designs of components and assemblies in a detailed mechanical design, with emphasis on design for manufacture and assembly. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, and exhibit an ability to creatively solve mechanical design challenges and subsequently impart rigorous design processes to ensure product success. You will work closely with senior engineers to bring designs from conception to requirement definition and ultimately production. The Mechanical Engineer I must be comfortable working on highly interdisciplinary teams and will be expected to work across disciplines to achieve goals. Finally, this role will be deeply involved in prototyping efforts of components and system designs.

What you'll do:

  • Support the design, build, and test of prototypes; evaluate prototype performance and inform design revisions using data-driven decision making
  • Develop CAD models for prototypes, test fixtures and rigs, and assist senior engineers building verification prototypes.
  • Down-select concepts through rigorous analysis of engineering mechanics, material selection, and manufacturing feasibility.
  • Drive component level design from conceptual design stage to high volume manufacturing readiness while meeting stringent cost targets
  • Develop functional mechanical requirements for components and systems in collaboration with mechanical engineers, system engineers, and application experts

What you'll bring:

  • BS degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering, or similar
  • 1+ years of industry experience in mechanical design or manufacturing in a product development setting
  • Proficiency using shop tools for machining, 3D printing, and fabrication of prototype materials
  • Experience in computer aided design (CAD) and geometric tolerancing and dimensioning (GD&T)
  • Experience engineering components and assemblies for complex integrated systems (i.e., robots, automobiles, engines, turbines)
