Form Energy is a U.S. technology and manufacturing company that is developing and commercializing pioneering energy storage technologies to enable the electric grid to run on 100% renewable energy, every day of the year.

Supported by leading investors such as Breakthrough Energy Ventures, ArcelorMittal, TPG Rise, MIT’s The Engine, and others, we share a common belief that low-cost, multi-day energy storage is the key to enable tomorrow’s zero carbon electric grid. Driven by our core values of humanity, excellence, and creativity, we are deeply motivated and inspired to create a better world. We need talented, hardworking individuals who share our goal of tackling the challenge of climate change. Do you want to work with us today to build a better tomorrow?

Role Description

The Market Intelligence Manager will be part of the growing Strategic Supply organization responsible for shaping the company’s key strategic priorities with a primary focus on Form’s upstream value chain. You will initially focus on identification, analysis, and development of sources, processes, and partners of critical materials, such as iron and other minerals and commodities, that can ensure long-term supply availability and cost competitiveness.

The successful candidate will enable Form’s growth by executing detailed cost, market, and risk analyses; identifying trends, opportunities, and development partners; and translating experimental results and shrewd insight into target specifications and priority actions based on a deep understanding of Form’s technical and commercial needs. You will be the internal expert on strategic minerals and commodities sourcing opportunities, while developing and maintaining positive, productive relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners alike. This role will work closely with Form’s engineering and advanced manufacturing teams to align specifications and evaluate use, with supply chain and finance teams to analyze costs and capital requirements, and with external parties to execute development work and feasibility demonstrations.

What you'll do:

  • Develop and maintain broad market, cost, and pricing knowledge of critical upstream minerals, materials, and commodities that can be leveraged to identify opportunities for innovation and growth, including market segmentation and value chain mapping, commercial and technical industry trends, and competitive landscaping
  • Identify and evaluate materials, partners, and offtake opportunities in existing and adjacent industries, construct should-cost analyses, scope and negotiate testing, development, and/or pilot demonstration activities with external parties, and collaborate on evaluation with internal teams
  • Alongside Form engineering and advanced manufacturing teams, define material/component specifications and inform process development by identifying priority upstream opportunities and technical requirements
  • Analyze materials/component costs, impact on Form products, and manufacturing investments by modeling capital requirements, lead times, production processes and capacities
  • Establish and recommend clear strategies and roadmaps for production and supply of critical minerals and commodities that align with Form’s business needs, considering scale, performance, costs, investment requirements, and timing
  • Regularly report on progress, opportunities, and key risks, while serving as an analytical and collaborative resource to cross-functional stakeholders

What you'll bring:

  • 3+ years professional experience in engineering, strategic sourcing, technical consulting, or related field with focus on materials processing, manufacturing, or development - industry experience in mining, metals, industrial chemicals, or batteries a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in materials science, chemical engineering, chemistry, or equivalent materials, chemicals, or manufacturing industry experience
  • Experience developing cost structures, should-cost analyses for components or processes, and/or analyzing commodities or minerals markets and pricing
  • Track record of working with suppliers and/or third party technology providers, delivering results and driving projects to completion
  • Quantitative, analytical, data-driven decision maker with a high attention to detail
  • Motivated by difficult problems, excited to collaborate across organizations, and seeking individual responsibility
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize efforts, and very effectively communicate progress and strategic roadmaps
  • Must be able to work in the US and travel globally (up to 25%)
