Job Purpose

The Maintenance Technician – Mechanical assists in the production process and leads troubleshooting and repair of mechanical aspects of automated and other production and facilities equipment with emphasis on hydraulics and pneumatics. Specific duties include providing technical support to Production Technicians, analyzing production data, and implementing improvements in the areas of safety, uptime, quality, energy consumption, tool change cycle times, and other operational metrics.

Responsibilities

Plant equipment and facilities maintenance:

  • Participate in preventive maintenance programs including process machinery / equipment lubrication, adjustments, cleaning, and operational diagnostics
  • Analyze and troubleshoots mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic failures and take appropriate corrective action
  • Handle minor lubrication requirements as needed
  • Perform minor burning and welding requirements of an assigned job
  • Dismantle equipment to gain access to faulty parts, remove, repair, reassemble, and make necessary adjustments to insure efficient startup and operation
  • Measure and prepare sketches of parts, fitting keys, laying out center lines, fitting bearings, drilling, tapping, and aligning holes
  • Use precision measuring instruments and work to specified, close tolerances while maintaining and repairing industrial equipment
  • Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, hammers, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists
  • Coordinate with outside contractors and supplemental support when necessary, including repairs, installations, security, fire prevention, loss control, etc.

Production support:

  • Support the production team in improvements to all aspects of production as needed, including operating equipment as needed
  • Responsible for equipment productivity and product quality on assigned production equipment
  • Monitor production process operating parameters control room and makes appropriate adjustments to ensure safe and efficient equipment performance
  • Ensure QC lab equipment is properly calibrated before use and reports abnormalities to the production manager
  • Monitor and adjust production control room operating parameters to ensure target safety, quality, and productivity targets
  • Perform equipment tooling changeovers and maintenance (e.g. lubrication, oil level monitoring, check sheets, etc.) on equipment
  • Participate in root cause problem solving and equipment performance improvement efforts to maintain target OEE levels
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

Safety:

  • Inspect equipment and inform maintenance manager and process technicians of potentially unsafe electrical equipment
  • Recommend and implement authorized corrective actions taken

Qualifications

  • Associate degree, Diploma from a Technical College or Trade School or High School Diploma in a technical field such as Industrial Maintenance Mechanic Program with a minimum of 4 years’ experience in heavy industrial equipment maintenance and repairs
  • Valid driver’s license

Working conditions

  • Must be able to work in outdoor environments and occasionally in temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees
  • Willing and able to work in a hot, humid, cold and noisy industrial environment
  • Willing and able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, to include wearing safety equipment.

Physical requirements

  • Willing and able to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing and/or pulling for up to twelve (12) hours a day
  • Willing and able to work around moving equipment and machinery
  • Willing and able to pull and lift, up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
