Job Description

“EnerVenue is building the batteries we need for grid-scale storage.” - Forbes

Launched in 2020 and now backed by $125,000,000 in Series A funding, we are quickly scaling our unique (but well-proven) grid-scale batteries for the world’s clean energy present and future. Our metal hydrogen batteries advance technology that has, until now, only been used in aerospace applications like the Hubble Space Telescope and International Space Station. EnerVenue’s technology brings game-changing differentiation to the stationary energy storage sector: unique durability, flexibility, safety, with cradle-to-cradle environmental and full local supply chain capabilities. Come join the clean energy revolution as part of a category-defining company.

With funding and new deals with energy companies like Schlumberger, we want you to join our expanding team to build a Gigafactory and put our technology to work for customers and partners across the world. Now is the time to join EnerVenue.

We’re excited to hear from you. It’s an exciting time for clean energy, and an especially exciting moment to join us at EnerVenue.

EnerVenue is looking for a Battery Test Engineer to join our growing start-up company. You will be responsible for testing electrochemical cells, battery packs and systems for advanced energy storage applications as a member of the Product Engineering team.

Responsibilities

  • Instrument and test battery cells, program cyclers, and oversee data collection.
  • Develop and enhance test labs and procedures to ensure the highest levels of safety. Create and maintain standard operating procedures for the lab. Coordinate with the facility team to facilitate the installation of testing equipment, offer guidance to technicians, and uphold a clean and organized environment within the testing lab.
  • Manage, maintain, and explore upgrades for lab hardware, including battery cyclers, thermal chambers, and electronics, as well as supplies and consumables.
  • When needed, design and develop test platforms using NI LabVIEW, Python, or other automation tools when required. Utilize test equipment such as data acquisition devices, power supplies, transducers, I/O devices, and other hardware to meet test requirements.
  • Design, assemble, and document battery test fixtures, both electrically and/or mechanically.
  • Collaborate with other team members to define characterization and validation test plans for cells and support data analysis works. Review cell test results and deliver comprehensive testing reports.
  • Manage the cell testing process, including scheduling and troubleshooting test issues. Clearly communicate technical matters, schedule considerations, deliverables, and requirements

Experience and Education Requirements

  • BS/MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Physics or a related field, coupled with over 5 years of industry experience.
  • Proven experience in testing various battery cells, including Li-ion, Ni-MH, Ni-Cd, etc. Analyzing data to characterize and validate cells and formulating actionable plans to enhance cell design and processes for improved performance.
  • Direct hands-on experience with battery cyclers/testers like Maccor, Arbin, Neware, Bio-logic, Chroma, etc. Proficient in analyzing raw test data generated by these testers to characterize cells, with a keen awareness of data quality considerations.
  • Knowledge of lab automation software such as National Instruments/LabView or similar software systems. Demonstrated expertise in building testing platforms utilizing DAQ devices, power supplies, and other hardware with various automation software tools will be a strong plus.
  • Familiar with data analysis and processing, preferably using Python or Matlab. Experience in developing custom data processing scripts, handling large volumes of test data, and automating the analysis process.
  • In-depth understanding of charging and discharging characteristics of batteries, including knowledge of fundamental concepts such as energy, capacity, DCIR, Coulombic efficiency, OCV, SoC, C-rate, etc. Ability to connect design and material choices with cell performance.
  • Experience in managing cell testing plans, defining test plans and protocols, overseeing testing schedules, and reporting results with comprehensive analysis.
  • Excellent clarity in presenting data and technical information. Commitment to integrity and presenting accurate data.
  • Project management skills with the ability to communicate effectively across functions, manage external teams, and deliver high-quality results under pressure.
  • Hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to work independently and wear multiple hats.
  • Experience with Battery Teardown is a plus.
